Literally 1984

ooklamok, in 8 December 2023

I need the Corridor Crew VFX guys to analyze those wine glass shadows.

abbadon420, in 8 December 2023

I could’ve used this as a kid

Bread, in 8 December 2023

You joke, but this is a valid thing to do when you need to sleep where there are mosquitoes. If they go in the tube, free protein.

threelonmusketeers,

If they go in the tube

Aren’t they attracted to carbon dioxide? They would go in the tube.

Tanoh, in 8 December 2023

I think Larson himself commented on it once as well, but how are they holding the menus?

LeafOnTheWind,

Prehensile snake penises?

LemmyKnowsBest,

Maybe the menus are attached to the tablecloth with velcro.

intensely_human, in 8 December 2023

I wonder what snake civilization would be like architecturally

LemmyKnowsBest,

Tunnels & mounds everywhere. Excellent aeration & topsoil agricultural health for natural vegetation to thrive.

No buildings, no asphalt, no concrete.

Just a world of healthy soil.

stingpie,

I think snakes would probably use tunnels, but I think snakes would probably use just as much concrete as us. We don’t use concrete because we like how it looks, we use it despite it’s looks. Concrete is just cheap and useful. It wouldn’t be any less useful for snakes. Though snakes would probably coat the concrete in something softer & higher friction, like rubber.

I love the sheer number of TFS comics that are just “what if people, but animals?”

Unforeseen, in 7 December 2023

Reminds me of the rockies and the runaway ramps

Vengefu1Tuna, in 7 December 2023

Alright, it’s my turn. I don’t get this one.

Pons_Aelius,

The chief is politely saying that someone has shit on their shoes.

platypus_plumba,

Oh wow, how did you even catch that.

Reminds me of that crazy bus driver

takeda, in 7 December 2023

Unlike the original story, even if he didn’t “cry wolf” the passengers won’t be able to help with the brakes.

chaogomu, in 7 December 2023

A question I've had for a while, why spam the current date on these when they were released in the 80s and 90s?

Should it not be the date of release?

LemmyKnowsBest,

I contemplated the same question yesterday and quickly came to the conclusion that the copyright year of each cartoon is already included in the picture, So I’m already satisfied with that.

and to expect OP to research & determine the exact date of original publication would be a lot of pointless effort.

I’m fine with the current modern date being posted on these because we are living in the present and I could easily glance at these and know whether or not I’ve read it before, because oh my gosh it’s seven December and that is right now!

I wondered the same thing a while back so I asked. It’s the date they’re digitally published on the official webpage.

LemmyKnowsBest,

there’s an official web page? does anyone else remember back during at least the first 10 years the internet existed Gary Larson refused to participate and he told everyone DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PUT MY ARTWORK ON THE INTERNET!

And then one day I noticed him resurfacing, someone had introduced him to digital art, he could create and color in his cartoons purely digitally, and he loved it. He said he was just doing it for fun but don’t expect him to make a job of it,

And now I see this, all his old art is being presented on Lemmy and I assumed it was unauthorized by Larson but perhaps he authorizes it now!

It’s crazy isn’t it.
