And as stated both have their merits and their faults.

Yes! Just because a compiler could guess the type doesn’t mean it should. Elon didn’t understand the meme at all.

Weddings have too much going on for anyone to keep track. It’s not a concert. No one is checking for tickets. After the wedding, receptions have assigned seating. But by then, you’d be long gone and planning the next Tolkiened wedding.

But here’s the gut punch. If you were listening to Physical Graffiti in 1975, 24 years earlier was 1951.

That was the end of big band music. You know, oldies.

Blue_Morpho, to asklemmy in What is a nifty little feature modern gadgets have lost?

Just buy a dongle and you can use regular headphones.

Is it required to wear a silly hat to be a genius mathematician? I’ve seen Euler and his hat. But I didn’t realize Gauss was in on it too.

Hiring takes time. It also required a lot more money than was budgeted because you need people who don’t have a 9-5. And lastly, not everyone lives in the city where there are buses.

Blue_Morpho, to lemmyshitpost in So, we gotta trick the rich into letting us eat them.

Keeping the same language so no mistranslation is no barrier for religious wars. Shia and Sunni do fine despite both having the Koran in original Arabic.

Blue_Morpho, to linux in New Linux user here. Is this really how I'm supposed to install apps on Linux?

It’s funny how quickly Lemmy turns on a dime between “Linux is easier than Windows” in threads about adopting Linux to “spend some time learning the terminal” when presented with a question that should be a single click (installing an app).

Before the hate train starts, I’ve been using Linux off and on for 30 years now. And I still struggle with making distros do things that shouldn’t be that hard because they aren’t hard in Windows.

the machines did it – it’s an act of mercy for their creators.

If only Animatrix had left it at that it would have fixed everything. Instead Animatrix doubled down on bad science by saying humans were an endless renewable supply of energy.

I’m pretty sure that’s a bios option. Your ram is retraining for maximum overclock. Turn it off. Live with the 1% slower performance.

I didn’t understand either but that’s the reason that they gave for quitting. Maybe some schools had a different afternoon driver.

Janeway didn’t get hate as much as it was criticism of the writers for making her inconsistent. One week it was “Prime directive no matter the consequences”, the next was “Lets do whatever to make drama.”

For all of Roddenberry’s faults, his presence for the early years of TNG kept TNG consistent instead of allowing the writer of the week to change characters for their personal story. By the time he was gone, the formula was set such that writers wouldn’t mess with characters.

Voyager has no singular authority so consistency of character was rare.

Edit: Except for Ensign Kim. He was born an Ensign and died one. Nobody messed with perfection.

Blue_Morpho, to starwarsmemes in As you know, our blockade is perfectly legal

Fencing with a rapier is different from waving around something which cuts and burns through stuff without pressure with every side

It’s actually closer to what Lightsaber dueling would be than the Kendo style used in most of Star Wars. The Light Saber has no mass and a single touch is incapacitating. So two handed hard chops like classic Luke are ridiculous. The rapier fencing technique to parry, thrust or slice quickly and lightly is ideal. You have a massless blade not a two handed clamore. You need only prick the opponent to severely harm them in the same way in fencing a touch, no matter how light, is a point for you.
