Why should people be triggered by “Hollywood crapolla”? This reminds me of that bit John Waters has about how a lady called the cops after renting Pink Flamingos.
Why don’t they just turn it off if it’s offensive? Thats what I did when “Forrest Gump” started running.
When I didn’t have health insurance and needed a cane to walk I would play this game with shitheads that drove up into the crosswalk. Do it, mfer, my spine is more expensive than your car.
I have this nice heavy winter coat that I accidentally tore a small hole in the shell near a chest pocket. It’s a tiny rip, but I don’t want it to get any larger. Any advice for how I should go about repairing it? I want to try a visible mend instead of a simple patch. The tag says the shell is listed as 61% cotton 39%...
There’s a lot of really good channels on YouTube by people who are a lot more knowledgeable than me! The one I watch the most is more embroidery focused, but Sarah Homfray has YEARS of videos on stitching techniques that are pretty well categorized in playlists.
Taking the pocket corner off will definitely let you make tidier stitches near the tear! Since the rest of the pocket will be attached you shouldn’t have too much trouble restitching everything back up. Please update when you’re finished, I love seeing other people’s visible mends 👍
Not sure what level of expertise you’re looking for, so sorry if you already know all this!
Edit: just realized I’m illiterate and that your post says INSTEAD OF a simple patch, not that you want to do a patch. 🤦♂️ Leaving this up in case the unnecessary spiel about how to do a patch in this situation helps someone else, lol. Although you can definitely incorporate a patch into a visible mend as well!
Are you set on the patch, or are you open to doing just decorative stitches over it? At that size something like a satin stitch or long and short stitch should hold it together well. Just be sure to give a bit of room between the edge of the hole and your stitches so that the fraying doesn’t extend into the stitching and undo it.
If you want to do the patch instead, probably the fussiest part is going to be getting the patch up to the edge of the pocket without awkwardly covering or stitching over the pocket, while also taking your stitching far enough away from the tear to keep it from fraying further. Probably all there is to do about that is pin the hell out of it while you’re sewing so that it lies nice and flush and navigate your needle under just the bottom layer of fabric under the pocket as best you can, if that makes sense.
For stitches to use with patches, I like to keep it simple and use running stitches, whip stitches, or backstitches. Backstitching takes more time but is really secure, running stitches are quicker and not quite as secure but I’ve never had them fall off in the wash or anything like that. Whip stitches are a nice medium of quick but secure and prevent fraying.
In citrus fruits sometimes ripe fruits will turn orange and then turn green again (either all over or in patches), it’s called regreening. It’s usually due to either chilly night temperatures or high UV exposure, so the same tree might produce completely orange or orange and green or completely green ripe fruit all in the same year.
Kumquats are taxonomically weird and may or may not be citruses, so I’m not sure that’s what’s happening in the OP, but I would guess it probably is.

PSA: sadly GC2b has had real quality issues for a few years now. Their binders used to be good quality, but people have been having issues with them falling apart quickly or being sized incorrectly, having trouble with getting them to fulfill exchanges, etc.
I had top surgery years ago so I can’t give recent personal recommendations, but as far as I know Shapeshifters and Underworks are still considered good quality.
Or as some of us on the spectrum call it: the overstimulation aisle!
I respect your preference but live in fear of it. I have to walk briskly down that aisle, I’m pretty sure I would actually have a mental breakdown if my house was that bright, lol.

They say devouring a frog, I say biting a dude’s nuts off.
For real though, what a neat buckle. Since they think it was related to an unknown pagan cult, I wonder what the purpose of wearing the symbol on the belt was? For others to see you were part of the cult (assuming it was worn visibly)?
We’re talking about a vacation this summer so we can plan ahead. My mother (who will pay for it) said she’d love to go to Yellowstone, but it looks like it’s about a 24-hour drive for us. Still, I like the idea of going to a national park. We’re in Indiana, so this image shows about the limits of where we’re willing to...
I grew up going to the Great Smoky Mountains fairly regularly as a kid, my favorite was always to go to Chattanooga. It’s like a mid sized town in the middle of the Smokies, so it’s super easy to drive out into very rural natural areas during the day and drive back to the amenities of town at night. There’s also a lot of fascinating Civil War history in the area if anyone is a history buff.
The aquarium is great, and I’m a sucker for the incline railway and Rock City (featured prominently in American Gods). Rock City is technically in Georgia, but it’s a 15 minute drive away from Chattanooga so it might as well be right there.
If any of the kids are 8 or under they’d probably enjoy the Creative Discovery Museum. It’s a pity caves aren’t an option, because Ruby Falls is an underground waterfall in the area and very beautiful. The other thing we always did was either go horse riding or zip lining.
Oh, and if you see people selling fruit or veg on the side of the road with hand written signs, stop and buy it. It will be some of the best you’ve had. Same rule for boiled peanuts and apple butter.
By luck: meeting my husband online in a random forum. Self explanatory.
By choice: getting top surgery (a double mastectomy). What a literal and figurative weight off my chest! Being able to just walk outside without wrestling into a binder or being worried about if people noticed my chest was such a game changer. You don’t realize what a gift it is to be able to get up and go outside on a whim until you can’t do it.
My parents got me one of them fancy countertop air fryer/oven things and idk what to cook first when I get it set up. According to the box, it does everything a normal oven does as well as air fries. Tip to keep your air fryer/oven in top condition: do NOT use oil sprays with propellants, like PAM. They will accumulate on your air fryer and get burnt and nasty and generally be a lot harder to clean off than a pure oil. I use a sprayer with pure avocado oil and no propellants. Also, give it a good wipe down after every use. You’ll thank yourself later when it’s not a disgusting mess.
My <1 year old nephew nearly choked to death on a nerf dart. He briefly went unresponsive before the ambulance got there and would probably be dead if both his parents didn’t have medical training.
So I guess it’s not ruined in that he’s still alive and probably okay (still waiting to see if he aspirated anything), but it’s not how you want to spend Christmas! Especially the older siblings watching all this happen.
