Chainweasel,

Yeah, I grew up in a poor area in rural Ohio and we heated primary with coal until 2021.

Chainweasel,

Enough that I’m not completely broke before my next paycheck.
Seriously, that’s all it would take for me to be happy, a little bit of disposable income.

Chainweasel,

Isn’t it fun when you go to sleep on your left side and roll over in your sleep, only to wake up in the middle of the night sick and ready to vomit from heartburn? It’s like my body is actively working against me when I sleep.

Chainweasel,

Wait, they’re not letting you stream because of your OS? That’s bullshit, I’d pirate it on principal at that point. No sense in waisting time trying to get your browser to report a different OS to work around it.

Amazon clearly lying about "ownership" on Prime. (lemmy.world)

You all remember just a few weeks ago when Sony ripped away a bunch of movies and TV shows people “owned”? This ad is on Amazon. You can’t “own” it on Prime. You can just access it until they lose the license. How can they get away with lying like this?

Chainweasel, (edited )

If they’re saying “own” on their advertisements then they should be required to refund you when they eventually have to take it away. I’m pretty sure “ownership” has a legal definition and it’s probably not too ambiguous.
It should at least be considered false advertising if they can’t guarantee access permanently.

What are some food items that cost less than what they "should"?

Bananas are ridiculously cheap even up here in Canada, and they aren’t grown anywhere near here. Yet a banana can grow, be harvested, be shipped, be stocked, and then be purchased by me for less than it’d cost to mail a letter across town. (Well, if I could buy a single banana maybe…or maybe that’s not the best...

Chainweasel,

Snack cakes. Do you want to know why America has an obesity epidemic?
Because a whole box of Swiss cake rolls is $2.50 at Walmart and a deli salad is $5.00.

Chainweasel,

Necessity, if you don’t need it to survive but it makes your feel good it’s a luxury, and those things change with time. Today a home Internet connection is nessicary to make it in the world, but 20 years ago it was a luxury and 30 years ago it was a novelty.

Chainweasel,

I think they’re cool as hell, I could watch those big fuckers go round and round all day.

Chainweasel,

It was about 45 days for me before my taste and smell came back, I got it the first round in 2020 and I felt like death for about a week then I felt fine but couldn’t taste or smell anything for 6 weeks.

Chainweasel,

Canned soup is cooked in the can in most cases so anything that may have evaporated away changing the taste is still sealed in the can. Also, when mass producing anything most companies will choose cheaper ingredients over higher quality ingredients.
So you’re left with a soup with low grade ingredients that’s still in the pot it was cooked in and never stirred, it’ll keep you alive but it didn’t have the same amount of effort put into it as someone cooking their own.

Chainweasel,

They’re not all Lauren Boebert, but there’s a lot more money than half a billion being thrown around in politics. If half a billion were enough to just buy all the politicians Musk would have done it a long time ago, that’s about 1/400th of his net worth when he keeps his mouth shut.

Chainweasel, (edited )

Relentless advertising the week before the election. Any sooner than that and you’re wasting money. The electorate has the collective memory of a goldfish so wait until the few days, and especially the weekend, before the election and dump it all into an overwhelming advertising campaign. Every other commercial that comes on TV should be one of your attack ads listing everything horrible the candidate you oppose has ever done wrong.
Buying politicians won’t work, that kind of money will either buy one for a few years or many for a few months. But $500m is less than a million dollars a year for just the house of representatives and when that money dries up their normal donors will be there with big fat checks ready to change policies back to the way they were before.
In order to enact real change you’ll need to actually replace the people in power. And even then the major sticking point is making sure that the candidates you endorse actually make the changes that would limit future corruption.

Yes it does, well it should anyway. it’s required by law in the US, and there’s no way in hell the US has t stricter laws regarding nutrition.

Chainweasel,

How in the world does the backwards ass United States have better nutrition laws than another first world country? a European one at that

Chainweasel,

So, maybe 20 years ago when I was in middle school I had a dream that I was being chased by a long, giant, weasel with hundreds of legs like a millipede. This happened at an overnight LAN party at a friend’s house. I sometimes talk in my sleep and my friends overheard me muttering about the “chainweasel” in my dreams and I never lived it down.

Chainweasel,

My 1989 LeBaron soft top. 4cyl turbo. It wasn’t fast, but man it felt like it was fast when you were driving it.

why is it so difficult select text from posts?

Good morning, English isn’t my first language and it happens quie often that I need to select a good chunk of text to translate it with DeepL, why, in often cases, is impossible but select the title of an article that Lemmy’s bot has summarised? I would appreciate, and I am pretty confident I am not the only one, if the...

Chainweasel,

I looked it up out of curiosity, it’s Apple only. First result on Google was for the Apple store.

Chainweasel,

I have bots disable in my account settings so the bot accounts don’t show up, but they’re still counted in the total number of comments for posts.
Could it be that you have bot accounts disabled?

Chainweasel,

IDK, falling out would probably be scarier

Chainweasel,

It’s interesting how most of the really early color photography seems to come out of the Russian Empire.

Chainweasel,

If it’s really cold I’ll do 3-4 layers. Typically for my legs I’ll do Long John’s, then a pair of sweats, then my jeans.
For my torso I’ll also use a Long John shirt, then a long sleeve sweatshirt, then a hoodie, then a Carhartt jacket. Also, always take a few extra pairs of socks, if you’re feet get wet from sweat, they’ll get very cold as soon as you slow down or take a break.
