[off topic]

Just read a great library based crime thriller and I’ve been sharing it with everyone.

“How Can I Help You” by Laura Sims. A serial killer and a wannabe writer go head-to-head in a small town library.

Dagwood222,

One of those rare cases where the movie adaptation far surpasses the book. Also, if you liked McKellan as a fascist in this movie, check out his Richard III. They decided to set it in the 1930s,

Dagwood222,

First time I heard this theory was in a James Bond story. Bond meets a woman who drives a bashed up car. Same reasoning; if it looks like she’s dangerous people will steer clear of her.

Dagwood222,

If it’s fiction, I’ll keep going unless it seems vital to the plot. Same applies for articles and light reading.

If it’s a school/work text, look it up, and then write it down.

Dagwood222,

When you have so many shootings that people are arguing about the statistics…

Dagwood222,

I worked retail for exactly one Christmas. The day I worked the toy department they had one album on repeat for eight hours. I hated Christmas music for years, and now it just annoys me.

“Ike At The Mike” by Howard Waldrop. Award winning short story. An elderly Dwight Eisenhower is invited to the White House. Ike famously gave up his West Point cadetship to become a jazz musician. Among the attendees honoring him is the young Elvis A. Presley, Senator from Mississippi.

Dagwood222,

Context time.

Actual Police Headquarters at One Police Plaza is/was about a mile away from Ground Zero. The store shown was being used as the onsite HQ for the rescue/recovery effort.

Dagwood222,

You’re the reason we can’t have nice things!

Dagwood222,

I posted because I have seen it go from expecting a bike rider to be a kid to expecting them to be an older adult. But I guess it’s different depending on where you live.

[off topic?] 1983 movie about some middle class white guys who decide that civilization can’t survive.

Dagwood222,

I feel like an idiot for taking so long to get one. After i brought it, a friend regifted me a milk frother. Zap the milk for 30 seconds and whip and you’ve got a barista drink at home.

Dagwood222,

Young people have a left knee and a right knee. Middle aged folks have a good knee and a bad knee. Old folks have a bad knee and a worse one.

Dagwood222,

Loved the first volume of a new fantasy series. Wait eagerly for Volume II. Nope out halfway through because it stinks.

Why wasn't NYC's Central Park concept copied by other cities?

I’m talking about a massive park in the absolute heart of the city. Located such that is naturally surrounded by city high rises. *People are giving examples of parks that are way off in the boonies. I’m trying to say located centrally, heart of the city, you know where the high rises are. Yes I understand nyc has more, the...

Dagwood222,

One of the great design tricks of Central Park is that at almost every entrance you go downhill. You are instantly cut off from the city noise.

Dagwood222,

None? I never heard any teacher say that.

Dagwood222,

[off topic] Chocolate covered espresso beans. Expensive as platinum but worth it. Check out high end candy shops and gourmet stores.

Dagwood222,

No. It’s like a peanut M&M except you have a candy shell around an espresso bean. You eat them like candy. Also, if you want to make hot chocolate with a shot of espresso, make them separately and then mix. Don’t try to cook them together.
