EnderMB, to asklemmy in What is an obscure piece of media or videogame that you think nobody else here has heard of?

Decades ago, my dad bought a PC that came with a free CD for a game called Retribution. The box art looked unlike anything I’d ever seen before (basically 3D graphics at a time when the Mega Drive reigned supreme). Sadly, the disc didn’t work, but I’ve tried to get my hands on a copy, to no avail.

Looking at the graphics now, they weren’t even that good…but for the mid-nineties for a small child, absolutely amazing.

YES! I wish more people knew about RFC 3339. While I’m all for ISO 1601, it’s a bit too loose in its requirements at times, and people often end up surprised that it’s just not the format they picked…

Same, although often stuff that won’t kill me, but will just make me ill or upset. Practically every time I clean my guinea pig’s cage, my brain looks at the little tablet-shaped turds they leave behind and thinks “just eat one” see what it’s like".

I hate my brain.

If it’s a baby, then my man is going to be getting it non-stop.

EnderMB, to memes in Ancient Rome and modern Lemmy

I see a lot of comments saying that people comment, but I’ll occasionally post videos when I see them come out, get zero responses, and will see the same video on Reddit with thousands of responses. These aren’t small communities either - the videos community on lemmy.world has thousands of subscribers, but few videos have any comments.

I don’t think it’s necessarily an issue with people not posting enough. I think there just aren’t enough people to sustain a social network with thousands of communities.

EnderMB, to asklemmy in What's a great podcast you'd like to share?

These will probably have a British/English slant to them.

  • Off Menu: Over 200 episodes, and two live tour runs, and it’s still a great and simple format. It’s hosted by comedians Ed Gamble and James Acaster, who ask guests to pick their dream meal.
  • Second Tier: If, like me, you follow a football club outside of the Premier League, you’ll know just how hard it is to make a show about the Championship. While I don’t always agree with them, they’re trying their best, and have managed to consistently put out content that tries to cover every team.
  • Fozcast (The Ben Foster Podcast): Great to listen to if you’re a football fan, as Ben puts out a lot of amazing insight into the world of football.
  • The Happy Hour Podcast: I’ve no idea who JaackMaate is, but he puts out a solid podcast with some great guests.

In that case I’m not really sure what you’re expecting from AI, without getting into the philosophical debate of what intelligence is. Most modern AI systems are in essence taking large datasets and regurgitating the most relevant data back in a relevant form.

No, commenting a function should be commonplace, if not only so that your IDE/editor can use the documentation when the signature is found elsewhere in your code.

Within a function, though, basically means that something gnarly is happening that wouldn’t be obvious, or that the function is doing more than it (probably) should.

Even if it were hard to find a good restaurant nearby, Greater Tokyo is fucking HUGE! I would be shocked if you couldn’t find pretty much all cuisine in or around Tokyo.

EnderMB, to memes in those ppl...

Many of the subs I spent a lot of time posting on are completely dead, bar maybe a few people that contribute 90% of all posts and comments. Others simply don’t exist, and given that they were quite niche (local subs, anime subs) there’s absolutely no way that they’ll ever get noticed on Lemmy if something like pro wrestling has next to no posts/comments.

IMO, the only way this will improve is a combined effort from Lemmy instances to highlight great communities, and to drive people towards ones that are growing.

Of course, ideally it’d be Bear McCreary, but I’d settle for my wife learning to play it.

EnderMB, to asklemmy in best app for lemmy?

Sync is the reason I’m here. For me, Sync was Reddit, and now, Sync is Lemmy.

Much like with Reddit years ago, with great apps like BaconReader and RIF, Lemmy is benefiting from having a huge choice of apps. Definitely try them all, and support the ones you like.

EnderMB, to memes in Lies, deception!

True, that is more accurate. IMO, in those instances, Amazon get all the shit that they deserve…although for many instances these are in their terms of service. There has been no shortage of scandals where Amazon have used utterance data for training ML models, or where they’ve retained voice data for the same reasons, when these have been in the TOS from the beginning.
