I guess I was wrong. But I just can’t stand gnome. Their devs are insufferable and it’s so incredibly unconfigurable. I have to use it at work (at least I can use linux) and it’s just so frustrating. I can’t stand people voluntarily using gnome
Americans took Imperial and changed the measurements but kept the names,
Not accurate. Imperial and US customary were designed side by side. They share a common history en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_units but US did not come from imperial
What tinkering do you think a framework laptop requires? Even the diy option is basically just install RAM, put case together. It’s an hour of work max if you’re being REALLY meticulous
2024 is the Year of Linux on the Desktop, at least for my boyfriend. He’s running Windows 7 right now, so I’ll be switching him to Ubuntu in a few days. Ubuntu was chosen because Proton is officially supported in Ubuntu.
All of those are still ancient systems. Arch or opensuse tumbleweed are the only systems that are reasonable for a desktop because they’re rolling releases
There’s nothing keeping the comments up to date with the code. Comments should be sparse and only on sections that aren’t obvious why they’re being done
A few questions to people who have struggled long-term with fatigue, exhaustion, insomnia, etc.: what do you do to keep awake for a full-time workday? Black coffee, supplements, herbs, drugs/prescriptions, other? None, and it required a lifecycle habit change? Have you had success with “desk” jobs sitting all day, or had to...
Is it shallow, or petty, to decide based on name alone? Yeah, pretty much, but there’s probably something, a product or service or site, that the name has made you gloss right over it or jump to it ASAP....
Hey, so I believe in a higher power but I’m not on board with any particular religion. Anyone else think it’s cool to just fly solo as a good human, no religion attached?
Agnostic and atheist aren’t mutually exclusive things. 99.9% of atheists are agnostic about there being a god because it’s unprovable. Same way you’re likely agnostic about Russell’s teapot en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell's_teapot
I know there are a lot of fad diets and then there is calorie counting as a more science based approach. I myself do calorie counting and follow a strict diet in order to avoid overeating. How do you eat all day, you follow a system?
It’s your genetics. I’m the same way. Can eat basically anything. At my absolute heaviest I was 5’11 165lbs, which is heavier than I like to be. But I just cut out the 10 sodas I drank a day and lost the 10 lbs I wanted to in like a month.

Non-religious Republicans of Lemmy, how do you reconcile your non-religious convictions with a party that bases a lot of its policies on religion?
E.g. abortion rights, anti-LGBTQ, contempt for atheism, Christian nationalism, etc.

What are your thoughts on the concept of having faith in a Higher Power but choosing to distance oneself from established religious doctrines?
