FireRetardant,

Pretty sure military or even construction grade equipment would be far better suited for that.

FireRetardant,

Pretty sure that is unsafe in any truck if you are the driver.

FireRetardant,

Make the small one legal to build in American markets.

FireRetardant,

It don’t matter how organized I am, my boss sees I’m done by noon on a friday he’ll give me more service calls, shop time or some other job to do.

FireRetardant,

They weren’t too bad when I left and even pitched in for some of my schooling. I still don’t feel bad taking a couple cans of soup whenever I visit though. And the work did teach me a lot of skills and a great work ethic.

FireRetardant,

I was born into a family run company. Gave them 10 years of my life. The first few years I worked really hard and got a 2-3 dollar raise. Shortly after, minimim wage went up to 50 cents below what I was making. I did not get another raise until 2-3 years down the line. Regardless who your employer is, get treated fairly or leave for somewhere that will treat you fairly.

FireRetardant,

Just buy reusable mesh bags and stop wasting plastic to protect your produce for a 20 minute car ride.

FireRetardant,

This feels shockingingly similar to how an AI could conclude to caring for humans. The humans are stimulated to be content by being in the matrix, their physical needs are met by the machines, no humans were “harmed” by the machine’s standards, and humans are for the most part unable to interfere with the machine’s decisions and goals.

FireRetardant,

At least toyota respects their customer enough to provide the recall. Many other makes would claim it was just regular wear and tear.

FireRetardant,

In my experience, toyota is on the better end for frame rot compared to other makes. Hell jeeps practically left the factory with rotted frames.

FireRetardant,

You know what true freedom is? Not requiring a car to get to places by having decently designed neighbourhoods where people can walk or cycle. For longer distances good quality transit could be available. No massive investment or lisence needed to travel.

FireRetardant,

It is sad but many who want this kind of change end up having their careers ruined as it goes against “the status quo” and the “character of the neighbourhood”

FireRetardant,

Now hopefully they start voting in their local elections for politicians who will build transit, bike lanes, and support walkability.

NYC MTA sets Manhattan congestion price at $15 for most vehicles, just one MTA vote left before the first congestion pricing in North America (www.planetizen.com)

New York City’s congestion pricing program is moving forward with a $15 fee on passenger vehicles, reports Stephen Nessen in Gothamist, after the MTA board voted to approve it. The program now enters a 60-day public comment period before a final vote....

FireRetardant,

Motorcycles are loud and the exhaust can be pretty bad, we don’t want everyone buying one to get around the congestion fees. They still take up more space than a standard bicycle or someone who took the subway.

FireRetardant,

Remote start has been around for well over a decade and did not require internet or a subscription. If you just subscribe and use the feature then clearly the neccesary equipment for remote start is already installed and you paid for that equipment regardless if you use the subscription service.

FireRetardant,

Most countries act like sociopaths if they were held to individual human standards.

FireRetardant,

I quit drinking pop in my late teens to early 20s. It is genuinely difficult for me to finish a single can of pop now, no idea how I drank 2 litres of it a day as a kid without getting fat or diabetic.

FireRetardant,

I do the revserse and try to put a dozen 2x4s and a couple small sheets of wood into a regular cart causing it to be difficult to maneuver through the aisles.

FireRetardant,

As true as that is, video essays may reach a wider audience due to their visual component that can keep people interested. Most people would rather watch a video than read an essay or listen to one.

Most people who make video essay videos include relevant footage, graphs/charts and diagrams, not just them sitting there and reading.

FireRetardant,

Are you saying you can’t snipe with a bolt action while sprinting?

FireRetardant,

The worst part is, corporations treat their own employees with the no loyalty mindset. The idea of finding one good company and getting raises and a pension out of them is pretty much dead.

FireRetardant,

“Whyyyyyyyyy-- – do people do this? You’re still just on the train.”

How Commute Culture Made American Cities Lifeless -- Yet There's Hope (www.youtube.com)

This video outlines some of the relationships between US commuting culture and the perspectives that it’s engendered about the role of the city. The, when compared and contrasted to other nations’ approach to city design and perspectives shows that it’s possible to have a city core that’s more than just a workplace....

FireRetardant,

In Canada the resistance to change is fueled by “this is how we’ve always done it” which is false as Canada was founded before the car was made. There is also a conflict of interest to reduce dependance on roads as we have a decent auto manufacturing sector and many people rely on jobs related to roads and cars. With zoning there is hesitancy to change because many of our politicians are land lords using single family homes as rentable apartments and they know that their property values will drop if we start building real multi unit residences and affordable housing.

Our cities have been caught in this style of development for decades and to try to change it really goes against the current political grain. It takes a brave and determined politician to try for change and they will meet resistance from their colleagues and parts of their voter base the entire way.

FireRetardant,

I think this shows some of the bigger issues in car centric design. Even if you don’t like driving, aren’t good at it, or aren’t comfortable with it, you often have to do it anyway beceause there are no viable alternatives.

FireRetardant, (edited )

Roadway runoff is a big impact from roads that is largely ignored in many places. The runoff can contain

Paint chips, Oils and fuels, Brake dust, Tire particles, Salt, and Litter.

Most of this will run right into ditches, streams or rivers. There is often no treatment of the runoff.
