Grass,

The odd time I’ve tried to research something in japanese it always felt like going back in time

Grass,

90s web design?

Grass,

I just get the toner refill and old cartridge exchange from whatever local print shop. My current area doesn’t have one sadly but I still have 2 left as I normally do 5 at a time. For anyone looking for printers I recommend checking openprinting.org and grabbing one categorized under “perfectly” even if you don’t use Linux. The driverless printers will work with phones and such too.

Grass,

I did too but then I adopted some bigger parrots

Grass,

Ublue although it’s kinda still fedora, otherwise alpine even though I don’t really use it.

Grass,

I miss the old days and what I thought the future of tech would be like back then…

Grass,

My modded t440p goes with me everywhere until then. I have that IIRC core2 dell(?) armored laptop running fully blobless too but it’s just a server backing up my 2fa emergency keys and such things. It was a fun little side project building and flashing coreboot but the hardware is a bit dated these days. The t440p is good for anything other than gaming or 4k movies at least.

Grass,

Neat. Chromebook image is useful for blobs when installing coreboot also.

(Constructively) What is your least favorite distro & why?

I’ve been distrohopping for a while now, and eventually I landed on Arch. Part of the reason I have stuck with it is I think I had a balanced introduction, since I was exposed to both praise and criticism. We often discuss our favorite distros, but I think it’s equally important to talk about the ones that didn’t quite hit...

Grass,

Same. Both started out good but kept becoming more and more… not good. If nothing else Manjaro taught me how to chroot from a live distro to fix catastrophic failures. Ubuntu really ruined my week when they decided to try becoming a smart phone with the very touch centric looking UI at the time when I didn’t have time to revert or change distros, which is what finally pushed me to run servers headless and use ssh. Last I tried none of the phone like de’s are particularly intuitive as touch interfaces either.

I'm so frustrated rn.

I have been distro hopping for about 2 weeks now, there’s always something that doesn’t work. I thought I would stick with Debian and now I haven’t been able to make my printer work in it, I think I tried in another distro and it just worked out of the box, but there’s always something that’s broken in every distro....

Grass,

Linux is kinda like a 3d printer. You can end up tinkering and tuning more than printing.

2d printers are just cursed and have been since the dawn of mankind though. Go to openprinting.org/printers/ and see if your printer is in there and if it is which functionality header it is under. I’m assuming it isn’t capable of driverless if debian didn’t work and the other distro just happened to have something preinstalled. Unless debian doesn’t handle driverless printing out of the box. I’ve only used debian headless for server stuff so I’m just making assumptions.

Arch maintainers recommend against aur helpers but for quite some time I just did exactly that and got the drivers for whatever jank ass printer I had at the time that way. Most of the official ones I have encountered are rpm and I hadn’t used fedora or other rpm distros until recently, and the aur pkgbuilds would unpack the rpm and install the drivers the arch way. Incidentally, last I tried silverblue/ublue/kinoite etc can’t install the brother printer rpms via rpm-ostree so having a driverless capable printer was lucky considering it was just randomly given to me by a friend that moved away.

If you share the printer model, someone here can probably also figure out what needs to be done without you having to go through a bunch of troubleshooting too.

I finally nuked windows

I have been daily driving a dual booted laptop for the past two years. After a year of distro hopping I settled with fedora + kde and never looked back. I really liked the auto nvidia driver config and it made everything so pleasant to work. Since the last 8 or 9 months I decided to do gaming using bottles and proton ge. I...

Grass,

This is the way. Dealing with the significantly fewer problems they have is easier too. Most things I can ssh in without even touching the computer and fix the issue from my laptop.

Grass,

Really though, what were they thinking. Why would anyone risk staying with unity after all their bad decisions, especially when they clearly have no intention to stop being dumb.

Grass,

Oh ok. I have seen those before yet didn’t think of them somehow.

Grass,

Please tell me miso is a brand and not japanese miso

Grass,

Meh just another crappy rootkit game that doesn’t even fully prevent cheating at the cost of undermining system security. But for worse or worse, the entire playerbase doesn’t care about their data being bought and sold for immense profits they get 0% of.

Grass,

I don’t support this existing, but does the nsa collect and sell all your data to third parties and make a shitload of money doing so? Because everyone else definitely does. I don’t know how difficult it is now, but some number of years ago you could request a copy of all the data some of the social media sites have on you and it’s fucking scary especially with how much is deduced, presumably from piecing together info from your entire social network.

Grass, (edited )

I just stacked boxes to jump over the wall of priestess gut’s room to get all the powder and oil barrels and everyone carries 3 or 4 depending on what their capacity is, and if I can’t clear a battle normally I reload to the save before and sneak barrels strategically around and blow them all up from a distance.

As such I don’t feel like there is a right or wrong way. Next play through I’m going to try not to do this but I know I’m inevitably going to try to come up with some really dumb cheese tactics.

Goblin camp you can just let gut drug you and dialogue then done. The drow what’s her name you can sell out the Grove and then shoot the bridge down as she’s leaving. The other guy you can void ball him into the pit next to his throne after the cutscene that makes him sit and invis or tp away with a scroll, or barrel bomb the whole room so no witnesses are left.

Grass,

Pageants are weird and don’t make sense to me. Who even operates them? It just seems like the kind of business a slimy old man would run.

Grass,

Haha I get it, it’s because everything you hate is on earth, and the moon, and whatever Saturn’s rings are made of. Genius rotflmao.

Grass,

My dad has started talking like this and it’s genuinely disgusting

Grass,

This would have been exciting to me if it was like back in the PowerPC dying out days when my old elementary school gave away all their old macs from the computer lab and I acquired about half of them and installed Linux on them.
