Feels Very circle jerky here. Its low effort commentaries on political issues mostly and extraordinarily little growth of niche interest subs. The lack of content here helps curb my doom scrolling, so that and a real hate for reddit leadership and the pathetic Simps that think writing “fuck Spez” while still contributing content to his network for free is a form of effective protest, are all that keeps me here though.
We Can barely hang on to the shitty voting system we have. I can almost never make it to polls (and often work Sundays) but I used to receive automatic mail in ballots. Now I need to apply for ballots early before each election and many politicians are fighting to make it harder and harder to do mail in. Women’s reproductive rights have back slid, internet freedoms have become restricted, vaccines are being required in schools and hospitals less not more. This guy is talking about progressive reforms and we are here just trying to dig fingernails into basic rights.
If there is an invisible hand, it needs to stop this. I’ll stop talking to anyone under the age of 28 ever again because if even one of you doesn’t vote I just cannot forgive.
I’m very much against voter nihilism regardless of the statistics. Regardless of if I’m getting steam rolled or not, I’m putting pen to paper and I want the record to show that someone didn’t agree with the mob - me, it was me. The US is a two party system and personally I think that sucks. You are definitely “throwing your vote away” by conventional wisdom in such a system, but if everyone thinks this way there is no hope for any traction or interest in advancing third parties - so I agree with this form of voter suicide.
For all practical purposes yes. It sucks, but as you can see, speaking about third parties gets most people pissed off as it’s considered voter suicide / throwing away your vote to vote for an extremely minor third party candidate. The financial support within these two power house parties makes it unlikely this system will ever change. As someone pointed out here, a systematic change like ranked choice voting where third parties could aggregate credit without forcing voters to abandon the two parties they are comfortable with would be the only hope of moving away from the bullshit 2 party system. However, that’s not in the interest of the two parties that already run the government, so never going to happen at scale at least.
Nope that’s not a refinement, thats just a new comment.
As far as less than ideally informed voters, that’s a self fulfilling prophecy - why become informed when there are two parties and you are programmed to already hate one? You just vote and party lines and move on. Politicians in the US don’t even have platforms anymore, they don’t need to.
