MangoKangaroo,

It’s baffling to me why it’s a weird negotiation to pay taxes instead of them just telling me what I owe since they do know what I owe.

You can thank the Intuit lobbyists for that one.

MangoKangaroo,

Welcome to the party! Never let anyone get you down for using a “beginner” distro; it’s perfectly valid to want a system that just works. :)

MangoKangaroo,

Shoot, I’d probably be one of them if not for my need to have Wayland and slightly newer libraries for my A770.

MangoKangaroo,

What entree do people pair these with? Or do you just, like, eat them with rice or something?

MangoKangaroo,

Ah, the age-old tale of insurance trying to skimp on covering medications. My doctor once tried to give me Modafinil (a very gentle stimulant) for mild narcolepsy. Insurance said no, and that they wanted her to try two lesser acting medications first (there aren’t any). So, she prescribed Adderall, and they insta-accepted it. Flawless logic!

As for a pep-talk: I have no wisdom, but I believe in you.

MangoKangaroo,

So, basically, 🐣.

MangoKangaroo,

Keep at it! It took me being ghosted a trillion times and having my heart broken after a second interview to finally find my current position. I believe in you. :)

How much does a creator's worldview influence whether you use their tech or consume their media?

Watching the drama around kagi unfold and it has me wondering how much you take into consideration a creator’s view on things like homophobia, sexism, racism, etc. when deciding to use a product. I think most of us have a bar somewhere (I would imagine very few on this website would ever consider registering on an altright...

MangoKangaroo,

A lot. Also, thanks for the heads-up on Kagi. Anybody have recommendations for a privacy-respecting search engine that isn’t run by chuds? Paid is fine as long as it doesn’t suck.

MangoKangaroo,

What toppings and condiments? 👀

MangoKangaroo,

Dang you get far fancier than me. I usually just throw on some pickled red onions, mayo, and mustard on a boring piece of sandwich bread. 😅

MangoKangaroo, (edited )

Anxiety has been through the roof this past week. My weekend hasn’t been too great either on account of a hole in my insulation causing my water to freeze on Friday. Hoping that it comes back tomorrow once temperatures start staying above freezing.

Edit: WATER IS BACK YAY

MangoKangaroo,

Thank you 💜

MangoKangaroo,

I have the big sad.

MangoKangaroo,

You’re very kind to offer. It’s mostly just self-image stuff that will have to clear out in its own time. I’ve at least got an okay support structure, so I’m not going it alone.

MangoKangaroo,

We had quite the party here on the PNW coast. My power somehow didn’t go out, though, so that’s a win.

MangoKangaroo,

I came to Beehaw wanting a replacement for orangesite™. However, I’ve since decided that I care a lot less about having a massive network and more about just having a positive community of strangers to talk to about my life and interests. In that respect I’d totally be open to a smaller platform. Whether that’d be Beehaw or somewhere else, I don’t know. But Beehaw leaving the Fediverse wouldn’t be the dealbreaker for me that I once though it would.

All that said, I’d definitely prefer Beehaw to stay in the Fediverse. While there are a lot of dorks out there in the wild, there are some communities that I’d really miss.

MangoKangaroo,

I’ve gotten to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day without any of my relatives going on an unhinged conspiratorial rant, so I’ll call it a win.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!

MangoKangaroo,

Beyond what people have posted, I also believe I saw something about GNOME planning to implement something like this soon™️

MangoKangaroo,

I posted last week about being anxious for a big exam I had coming up. I was getting physically ill from the anticipation, and so I decided to just send it instead of waiting and studying until the last minute (it’s a WGU OA, so I can take it whenever.)

I’m super happy to say that I absolutely crushed it! That’s my last sit-down test, so now all that’s between me and my Bachelor’s is some essays and a work-based-learning experience! Needless to say I’m doing pretty good. :)

MangoKangaroo,

At least I’m not the only one who got to enjoy some December exams. Fingers crossed for you!

MangoKangaroo,

Thank you. :)

MangoKangaroo,

Thanks! 💜

MangoKangaroo,

Probably COSMIC. I’m also excited to maybe see HDR and improved tiling in GNOME.

I Made Screen Brightness Control on Gnome Much Better (gitlab.gnome.org)

Anyone here struggle with trying to adjust brightness on Gnome in low light? At the low end, the steps are way too far apart, and at high brightness they’re almost imperceptible. Every other operating system uses a brightness curve that better matches human perception....

MangoKangaroo,

I run GNOME on my laptop and I’d definitely love to see more robust brightness control. Thanks for putting in the work to make this happen.

What Tweak, Program, ... changes a Desktop Environment from unusable to great for you?

I have used Linux on and off for 15 years. I consider myself a casual user and stuck to the mainstream DEs (mostly KDE, XFCE and some Cinnamon). Gnome has been a hurdle for me before and after the big version 40 changes, I couldn’t get my head around how they handled the workspaces and workflow. At some point I I tried out an...

MangoKangaroo,

I’m not sure that I’d call vanilla GNOME (or any modern DE) unusable for me, but Tiling Assistant is really great. I’m looking forward to GNOME’s upcoming tiling changes so I no longer have to rely on an extension to give me quarter tiling.

Dash to Dock is also nice, though I don’t necessarily mind having to hit Super to see my dock.
