MystikIncarnate, to memes in She helps when I cook.

Pretty much all the time. Whenever my cat is staring at me and I have something in my hands, if he’s close enough to sniff, I hold it where he can sniff. Doesn’t matter what it is.

If it’s food, and maybe the food is something he is interested in, I can see his expression/posture change, and I pull back and and separate a small, cat-sized bite for him to try, being careful to only give him cat friendly morsels, like a piece of meat or something.

Usually he doesn’t have any interest in what I’m eating, so that’s rare. Most of the time he sniffs, then retreats to a safe distance, uninterested in what I’m having… I just think he’s not sure until he gets a good whiff; so I give him one.

More like, other people won’t work with Bill.

Two things: these are basically plastic anyways.

Also, the plastic straw thing was a PR move. Corporations don’t give any shits unless it will make money or lose them money.

I’m sure there was a nontrivial number of customers who either boycotted or threatened to boycott companies that didn’t switch. When their bottom line gets threatened like that, they take action to prevent revenue loss.

Nothing more. There’s way more problems with everything than plastic straws. My favorite PR move is how they convinced everyone that their cars are causing the majority of CO2 emissions from transit… Between that and airplanes, everyone is up in arms about the electrification of everything… Yet, the most major transport offenders are freight, and they have no plans or intention of changing their ways. I heard somewhere that if you were to have zero carbon emissions for your entire life, you would save the approximate amount that freight liners emit in a year, at most. I think a year is too long. I forget the exact figure.

They emit more CO2 than all the cars, and all the planes and everything else you could point to… Yet, I have yet to hear anyone tell me about it, either personally, or on the news or anything. Everyone seems oblivious to the facts. They latch on to these “issues” like straws and personal vehicle CO2 emissions which are trivial…

MystikIncarnate, to lemmyshitpost in Still haven't found the right amount of mind bleach for this one...

What a terrible day to have eyes.

Oh, so the WiFi was fine, but the internet sucked when it rained. Cool.

WiFi != Internet.

They’ll do it again, I’m sure.

And the government will take our tax dollars and bail them out again, I’m sure of that too.

We’ll get nothing except the right to continue to work for minimum wage, and we’re expected to thank them for the “privilege” of having a job.

It’s a wonderful life.

MystikIncarnate, to memes in It's cheaper is what it is

I have a fun story on this. I’m male, and I have fairly recently been diagnosed with adult ADHD, which has given some context to why I am the way I am.

I also fairly recently hit burnout, which isn’t fun. But I have recovered and wanted to return to work. To facilitate this, I engaged with my doctor for a referral to a therapist to help deal with the unique challenges I faced. I had a call with the therapist (they’re entirely remote), in October, they gave me some “homework” of stuff to check into as I transition back into working, and set a follow up call for about a month later (mid November)…

I still haven’t heard from them and it’s now mid-December.

I was forgotten about by my therapist.

It is what it is.

MystikIncarnate, to lemmyshitpost in Air: Where did that bring you? Back to me.

Well yes. It is. Liquid cooling does have merits. I won’t say it’s better than air cooling in a general sense; at the end of the day, the heat ends up in the air.

With liquid cooling, you can transport it further, use larger radiators… The list goes on.

My key point is that as long as the components get cooled, who cares which you use? Do what you want.

MystikIncarnate, to linuxmemes in Can you install thid 25 year old program?

There already was one… Does anyone remember Windows 8?

MystikIncarnate, to memes in I guess it's the pretty colors?

I want my browser to be hungry. I’d rather have it using the memory for sites than have the sites reload when I switch tabs. I want it to be fast on all things.

This is not exclusive to Chrome. No matter what I use, I want it to be running from RAM and not have to swap or reload anything. Even things on my phone. I absolutely hate when I’m in the middle of multitasking on my phone and I go back to some information and the app has been unloaded and needs to load from scratch again (sometimes requiring a login to view the information I had previously retrieved).

That being said, I load everything I own up with about as much RAM as I can, and I buy devices with more RAM than I think I’ll need. Generally when considering an upgrade to my current cellphone, I’m looking at the RAM of the new phone and considering if the increased amount justifies the work and cost involved with changing phones (if there’s an increase at all). Since RAM will be the most significant factor in whether or not something can keep up with me.

My main PC has 64G, my laptop has 32G, and I believe right now, my current phone has 8G. It may be time to upgrade my phone…

MystikIncarnate, to memes in If only I had time to re-watch everything again

This is presently happening with me for invincible. Season two just started and I have no idea what happened to get us where we are.

But Dr. Who is returning, so I’m rewatching the entire series. Just got to Matt Smith…

MystikIncarnate, to asklemmy in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

Instead of focusing exclusively on how fast you can get to the finish, which may result in missteps along the way that slow you down, focus on moving smoothly accounting for variables that might make the journey more rough and doing what you can to plan for/avoid them. Making everything “smooth sailing” all the way to the finish line. There’s a dozen different interpretations that can be applied here, and it’s more or less an adaptation of “slow and steady wins the race” but it’s so broad that it’s generally true.

Sometimes, speed for the sake of speed is faster, period, but often speed for the sake of speed comes with compromises and issues along the way which may make the whole process slower over all. I’d rather go smoothly than quickly.

A good real-world example of this is stop and go traffic. Instead of going quickly to catch up to the person ahead of you, then stopping abruptly, if you instead go at a slow/steady rate, you will burn less fuel, consume less of you brake material, and over all have a more pleasant drive than if you’re constantly stopping and going. In addition, if everyone were to adhere to this in heavy traffic, then most traffic jams would very likely be less impactful on travel delays. You’d get through congestion easier and with less frustration, and very likely arrive sooner, feeling more calm and relaxed.

Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

MystikIncarnate, to lemmyshitpost in ...did everyone get this?

Awww man, I don’t wanna do this shit for another 20 years just to die.

Can we make it sooner?
