Minor correction: in a few billion years our sun will expand into its red giant death phase.
Also: our star can't go nova by our understanding of astrophysics. If it actually can, then we might need to throw out a lot of astrophysics, including predictions on when our star will expand.
Also also: the odds of the dice giving double 6s is MUCH higher than our sun going nova at any point in time even if it could go nova and was overdue.

Somewhere on a remote mountainside in Colorado’s Rockies, a latch flipped on a crate and a wolf bounded out, heading toward the tree line. Then it stopped short....
There's risks to choosing to live away from other humans. North America is rampant with large predators: wolves, bears and lions. Humans banned together millennia ago for such protection. If you wish to live a dozen miles from more than 2 other people, that's a risk you take.
Reintroducing wolves is fixing the mistake we made in killing them all; which is causing more problems than it solved.

I forget where I saw it but I watched a video that showed how in 69 it would be so difficult to fake the shots that it was easier to just go to the moon.
I know this is memes, but instant noodles weren't invented to prevent starvation. On launch they were actually many times more expensive than fresh noodles.
It isn't. It's not saying Chinese people look like Winnie the Pooh. Or even than he looks like Winnie because he's Chinese or asian. It's just a coincidental resemblance. And people wouldn't use it as a pseudo-insult if it didn't upset him so much. Which is kind of baffling why anyone would be upset at that comparison; it makes you seem lovable.
Unfortunately bankruptcy has been disempowered strongly. There are quite a few types of non-dischargeable debt like court rulings and student loans in the US. Credit Cards are definitely dischargeable but bankruptcy has also been made as painful as possible for working people.
Credit scores, created in the 80s, are required for any type of borrowing. Bankruptcy effectively denies the filer any type of credit or loans that aren't extremely predatory and costly. You effectively have to live 7 years without credit cards, new student loans, auto loans, mortgage, etc. Which, for many people under water might not be different than they live now, sans the credit cards. But in the absence of easy revolving credit, you may still need to borrow money to avoid eviction or your power being cut. In that case, your main option is going to be payday lenders. A service so corrupt and predatory it'd probably be classified as a criminal enterprise in the past.
Really interesting read about the history of YouTube adblocking, how the new detection works, how uBO is responding, and how not to block the new popups.
uBO team (2 people) should not be responding to questions on reddit or elsewhere. They should just update the filters and post a "extension updated, should work again now".
In the end, Youtube will win if they want to win. Google can throw unconscionable amounts of money at their techs to fight the adblockers while the volunteers spend their attention and patience.
Exactly. The issue is that you can't detect photons without interacting with them. So it isn't observation like so many people think. It's that if you interact with subatomic particles you change their state.
That's absolutely the point. The goal of most marketing is to worm into everyone's brains so when they think of a need, the product is their default. This doubles down on that by trying to generate a need through action.
Yep. It's all about helping people transition. So much of American food culture is centered around burgers, steak, BBQ, etc. It's really hard to just drop all of that on a dime, even if you want to. These products help people with that mental itch.
It's like an HOA: The council is deciding how to divide up your backyard between your neighbors. The lawn owner is the only dissenting vote and then the neighborhood wonders why they are being so hostile.
The hottest lava gets about 200C lower than the melting point of what looks like stainless steel. And the water inside will actually wick that temperature from the outside into the water pretty effectively.
That's also why you can boil water in a paper cup by placing it over a flame. The water eats the eat like a hungry jiraffe.
Probability.... Need I say more?! (literature.cafe)
