Red pill.

I’d apply myself in high school, force myself to be sociable as a child, graduate with my bachelor’s degree 4-6 years earlier with a better GPA, and get work experience and savings well before the COVID-19 pandemic. (I would try to stop it, but if someone told me that they had exact knowledge of the future, I wouldn’t believe them, and frankly I would be worried if people believed me without further evidence.)

I don’t need or want $10 million.

Wow what an ungrateful crybaby pooping on your sister’s gift, smh.

/s of course. Congratulations on the newborn!

I went to the college career fair twice last year as well as a co-op fair, and I’m going to the career fair again in February.

$69420

No but seriously, about $70k would make me feel a lot better.

(sorry for the story)

All good; I’m usually on your side of this interaction.

But for some reason I feel just as poor as I always felt and it feels like nothing changed and it’s not going as far as I thought it would.

I mean I made 15k a year doing fast food before I went back to school, and even that was hugely important for me to get my mental health in order. I can’t go back now though; too much has changed, and I need to focus on grad school.

I feel bad complaining when it’s a privilege and many people make worse.

Don’t. It sucks that we have to work at all. You always have a right to vent and be an emotional human no matter how safe your situation actually is relative to others.

I applied for several West Coast positions and was not even interviewed for them. I applied for literally over 300 positions in my field all over the country and got no offers, so at least for the near future, I have to conclude I’m unhirable. Most companies I applied to do not offer relocation assistance, so even if I was hirable then they would pick a West Coast local instead.

Electric guitar, preferably with heavy distortion. Louder := better.

No but seriously I love heavy music so much. It’s fun to listen to, fun to play, and it’s just had a positive impact on my life. If you want to really tug on my blackened heartstrings, you gotta do it through distortion, preferably an HM-2, in as low a tuning as your guitar can handle.

I’m literally autistic and I can barely even talk to people anymore, so I imagine it’ll be a gigantic disaster.

But merely being able to communicate with people has never been sufficient to make peace with them, at least from my experience. Otherwise I’d be much more popular with people, because I never had trouble reading, listening to, and writing to people, but I’m not good at talking to people. I typically need a lot more prior information (i.e. cultural norms, dictionary of body language, recent local history, a catalog of an individual’s interests and their definitions, etc.) to talk to people effectively, which I often don’t have or acquire by fucking up enough times to figure it out by hand 🙃.

Oh okay, so all they’re going to hear about humanity is all the weird math shit I’ve been watching YouTube lectures on lately 😆.

It’s typically vertical, but you can name your variables however you want.

I don’t! I want people who are concerned about the misuse of AI, particularly by corporations and world governments, to learn how to use AI to fight back against our oppressors or at least make AI-powered technologies that are helpful for common people, and to archive how it works, particularly how it fails.

Applying for over 300 jobs in my field and getting zero offers, and getting scammed by the one “job” that ever gave me an “offer.”

I know it’s just the meme, but topology actually pops up in robotics. The topology of the configuration space, i.e. what values the variables you can control, like arm angles, linear positions, etc., can actually be used to determine if a certain type of movement is feasible. For example, if your robot’s configuration space has the shape of a torus, you can’t send the robot “into” the torus’s “donut hole”. Physically, this means that to get from one configuration to another, you might have to take some indirect path because the straight path (in configuration space) isn’t physically feasible.

Current and Former (Fast) Food Service Workers - How do you handle requests like “All the fries you can give me”?

Just curious as I’ve never been on the other side of the counter, how does this sort of thing tend to work at restaurants? Fast food and fast-casual places are where I’ve heard customers say things “pile as much lettuce on there as you’re allowed to” - is there ever a limit your supervisor instructed you for things...

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S,
@PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Where I worked, servings of fries were proportioned in advance, so I would only get to pick which bag of fries to cook. Even with no request, I already went for the largest bag when I had the time to do so, in order to ward off complaints on my orders and get better tips.

Generally speaking, we had no obligation to fulfill requests, although sometimes we would if they were simple enough or we had downtime.

Electric current is actually carried by a bunch of microscopic bats. A battery contains thousands of these microscopic bats. A tery is a former battery that has been depleted of its bats i.e. a dead battery.

Batteries are extremely dangerous because bats are known to carry rabies. Additionally, Harry Nyquist et. al. figured out on April 20th, 1969 that batteries with rabid bats can deliver more energy than batteries with healthy bats, so they are more dangerous now than they used to be. The bats are so rabid in home power systems that the rabies can kill you instantly if the bats get to you.

As a result, batteries may only be used in devices that cover the batteries in a protective case. Additionally, the protective cover helps shield the bats’ echolocation from loud noises from outside the case so that current doesn’t get lost. Actually, this effect is why telephones sound so distinct: the current-carrying bats are getting lost as they fly towards the speaker because their echolocation is being disturbed by your voice.

/joke.
