We probably aren’t saving much on the veggies overall for sure. Some are cheaper than canned but others aren’t. However, we know exactly what’s in it and we buy it once a year so we’ve budgeted for it.

Definitely not about cost on the veggies. At best it’s break even compared to the store. It’s more about knowing it’s the veggie and water only. Or seasoning too if you like them a certain way. We’ve found corn to be higher quality too. Plus, where we live peaches are fabulous and better than anywhere else in the country so we get to can the best and control the amount of syrup used so they’re healthier. Sorry Georgia, you don’t actually have the best peaches.

It is, and it’s even cheaper if you raise your own. Plus it’s better quality meat.

Wife has been canning for a few years now and we have a pantry of fruits, veggies, and dehydrated food. She goes to the farmers markets during harvest time and goes to town on entire cases of tomatoes, corn, beans, etc. That will last all year for our family of 5. We also pay a friend to raise a pig on her ranch and butcher that once a year. Just got ours (over 400 lbs!). Pork is A LOT cheaper that way. Haven’t found anyone to go half or a quarter in on a cow. We also would need another deep freezer and don’t really have room for it.

We also meal plan weekly so we only buy groceries for what we need to make meals. That saves a ton of money as you aren’t wasteful as much. Oh and we either do pick up or delivery as you spend more when you’re in the store and see things you want but don’t need.

We make almost everything we can from scratch. Wife recently found a recipe for baked oyster crackers with butter and seasoning on them that make dirt cheap snacks and they’re fantastic. The store brand oyster crackers are $1 for 16oz. That’s almost cheap enough to not make those from scratch too. We haven’t bothered yet.

Why do christian apologists say the name of the person they're talking to so often?

I’m sure there are other groups that do it too, but I’ve noticed it most often from christian apologists, probably in part case I like listening to debates/discussions with them from atheist youtubers, but I’ve also noticed it talking to christians myself....

I’m definitely not one this works on. It just turns me off and makes me a lot less likely to trust you. I read through that BS pretty quickly.

Lakeshore you say.

Pumpkin pie filling. The real stuff takes forever and it’s stringy. It also doesn’t taste quite the same. Libby does it so well it’s not worth making your own.

My wife says pie dough. Pillsbury’s is almost as good and a lot less effort. I prefer pie dough with a ton more butter but she doesn’t.

The egg shell doesn’t really change color. I’ve had rotten eggs that had white shells. The hen layer determines the color of the egg.

Besides what’s already been said, pictures of family and friends is something he can’t buy.

China invades Taiwan and the US helps defend them.

  1. China’s president Xi Jingping’s remarks about taking Taiwan back over during his address to the nation this year.
  2. I work with someone who is currently high ranking in a corporation and is a retired submariner who was also in intelligence and is currently in the reserves. He has mandatory federally protected training upcoming this year over this exact scenario (basically, not all of their training is federally protected, meaning an employer can’t retaliate over taking time off to do mandatory training). The military is obviously convinced it’s a real possibility.

If you figure it out let me know. It’s been 2 years for me.

I have heard of Stellate Ganglion Block which blocks the nerve and kind of reboots it. People talk about it literally working instantly. About $500/side (they can do one or both) and you have to find someone that can do it near you.

God I miss the taste of good coffee.

I recommend finding a movie you love that was a book first and reading it. I’m an extremely picky reader and I did this with Dune and LOVED it. Hasn’t gotten me much further but this may help kickstart your love of reading again.

Definitely read that one before the movie came out. Excellent read. Great suggestion anyway!

Learning how to create better 3D prints and printing functional objects.

QuarterSwede,
@QuarterSwede@lemmy.world avatar

Ohhh, I haven’t tackled that one yet. My father loves Clancy (too bad Clancy was a douchebag).

My son and I got an Ender 3 Pro 3D printer for Christmas from a family friend who scored one from a print farm for cheap. She also gave us upgrades and we’ve been learning how to print. Already successfully printed a calibration cube and master sword. We have a bunch of functional prints we want to tackle so it’s been a fun learning experience for both of us.

Literally just finished cooking Mexican chicken in one for Taco Tuesday. One of our favorite small appliances.

Financially I save for a 401K and have the company match it. Then online off of what’s left over.

As far as doing things, we plan for larger vacations and events out 1 year. If it’s a less costly or time consuming thing locally we plan those by the week or month.

We don’t do a lot spur of the moment. Keeps the cost down and we’re busy enough as it is with 3 kids.

Which of the U.S. national parks in this image do you think is the most worth visiting? There are three exceptions. (lemmy.world)

We’re talking about a vacation this summer so we can plan ahead. My mother (who will pay for it) said she’d love to go to Yellowstone, but it looks like it’s about a 24-hour drive for us. Still, I like the idea of going to a national park. We’re in Indiana, so this image shows about the limits of where we’re willing to...

Sometimes it’s fun to let someone else be pedantic for once.

QuarterSwede,
@QuarterSwede@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a really good example. Also makes me think of apps that have stable and beta/nightly builds available. Stable gets updated at a much slower pace than beta/nightly.

Oh LTS. Absolutely. Great point.

What are the best steps to reduce the wealth of billionaires?

There are a myriad of news articles here on Lemmy that display the abhorrent influence billionaires have on our society (especially the US, where I reside). I consistently read comments where the posters appear hopeless and despondent of the situation, while others jokingly refer to the guillotine....

QuarterSwede,
@QuarterSwede@lemmy.world avatar

This is brilliant in its simplicity.

QuarterSwede,
@QuarterSwede@lemmy.world avatar

When the billionaires themselves are telling us to tax the crap out of them then why aren’t we?
