For small portions that probably will work. Plenty of times I’ve put pasta in only to have it stick if I don’t stir a little in the first minute or two. There’s just not enough room for the boiling to agitate the pasta enough to prevent sticking.

Disney is gouging customers with a near doubling of subscription costs. (sh.itjust.works)

Disney is raking its customers over the coals with a 75% price hike for their annual subscription (originally $80.) People wonder why piracy is on the rise.Multiple commenters are saying I’m off base about the 75% price increase. My payment less than a year ago was $79.99. Here’s the proof.

RememberTheApollo_,

Good lord.

What was it? ~$50/yr price a couple years ago?

Gamers who have gamed for a long time

do you find it difficult to get into games? I’ve got Epic Games and Steam Games libraries chock-full of classic top-tier games along with many other newer games like Stray or 2077, and a bunch of indie titles. I just can’t be bothered to download and install them, much less try to get into the characters and storylines. Used...

RememberTheApollo_,

You might be right. Except I don’t like sudoku.

RememberTheApollo_,

I’m not that old, ffs. lol.

RememberTheApollo_,

True. However, you’d be getting paid to do stuff like one square at a time, so that’s a job. Not just playing for fun.

RememberTheApollo_,

Don’t forget they were also made with dihydrogen monoxide, a substance that kills hundreds of thousands every year!

If I had any programming ability above the level of a sloth I’d make a blocker called “Muffler” that basically separated out all the adstreams and made them think they were viewed and played in real time, but invisible to the user.

Shouting into the void, and nothing to be done about it as they’d look like they were being played.

RememberTheApollo_,

Got a ~3% rate a couple years ago, so not bad.

Yes they do.

You just have to pick the right car, and it’s not gonna be an off-the-shelf regular car.

RememberTheApollo_,

Hah, too old for that risky stuff. Hitting a wall at a buck twenty doesn’t sound like fun. Yeah, they absolutely are race cars, but they are built to be street legal as well. That’s the direction I’m in.

RememberTheApollo_,

TBF you made generalizations that a) they don’t appreciate, and b) my car’s value depreciated off the lot directly to the initial statement I made that the car I purchased would appreciate.

I can assure you that these statements are incorrect in regards to my purchase. If you want to walk back your statements to not be in reference to my initial position, who were you talking to then?

RememberTheApollo_,

Thanks!

RememberTheApollo_,

A car loan for a completely unnecessary car.

Can we afford it? Yes, with reasonable budgeting, no sacrifices needed.

Will the car appreciate? Undeniably.

Do we need a toy like this? Fuck no.

Did it anyway. I’ve been poor for such a long time it’s really hard to justify any frivolous purchase at all, but we have good jobs now. I waffle between “This is stupid” and “I’ll never get to do this again, so why not now?” Literally YOLO.

The rest of debt is “good”, like the mortgage building equity, a CC to keep credit rating good (paid off monthly).

Why are we as humans obsessed with mass-extinction of our species?

I was having a conversation with my friend about this. We were discussing AI and she believes AI will destroy all of humanity just like so many others. I personally don’t believe that. I’m aware of all the theories and the multitude of ways that it could happen and I understand that with AI, in theory we wouldn’t...

Because you can turn on the TV and air conditioning and it’s like nothing bad is happening.

Substitute the trolley for a tornado, the tracks for homes, the deity killing randomly with said tornado, and the survivors thanking deity for their survival (and their neighbors’ deaths).

Not a good analogy? Of course it isn’t. God doesn’t exist, and if he does, he’s perfectly happy killing you and destroying your family for no reason whatsoever, and your neighbors will thank him for doing so.

Will human societies always enshittify themselves?

It seems society always goes down the shitter over and over following the same path. People rise to wealth and power extracted on the repression of the masses, massive disparity, ignorance exemplified, xenophobia and blaming minorities for any possible issue, laws signed with golden pens but becoming more meaningless when...

RememberTheApollo_,

I said enshittify, not annihilate.

RememberTheApollo_,

Rome.

Look, don’t kill me over specificity. I wanted a general statement and cannot possibly name every avenue by which society collapses without being boringly pedantic, however I would suggest that “modern” Non-nomadic societies generally faced wealth concentration, disparity, and collapse at some point.

RememberTheApollo_,

Define “wise”.

There have been many victorious dictators that were idiots and killed millions of their own people out of fear, ignorance, or prejudice.

RememberTheApollo_,

I don’t know if English is not your native language, but none of that makes sense.
