Rentlar,

It’s called petrol and benzin elsewhere in the world. Gas/gasoline is just a name for automobile fuel.

Btw, on the periodic table at room temperature and typical atmospheric conditions, gases are “fumes”, sure, but all of the first 72 elements are gaseous at 5000°C.

Rentlar,

Actually, you need the cock software update.

Rentlar,

The only place you can watch all of the above without restriction…

Rentlar,

The dunkey bit writes itself…

Can you check the battery voltage with a multimeter if you know how to use one? when disconnected at full charge, when connected, and when the strange flickering is happening?

There are battery voltage monitoring tools on Windows and Linux which could work but I’d trust multimeter numbers more. Check to see if it’s above by more than 15% rated voltage or below rated voltage by any amount at full charge. Check for any strangeness in the charge curve.

If you see any of those signs your battery is likely busted. Also if your battery looks inflated at all replace it immediately.

Rentlar,

Sorry that it hasn’t lived up to your expectations.

I don’t believe that the federation model “fixes” tribalism and in fact encourages it in an echo-chamber kind of fashion, by clustering like minded individuals in communities in its own servers with their own moderators.

On the other hand, in my experience this place overall feels a little more mature. Sure you have circlejerk threads and there’s a lot of controversial news that in a couple cases have evolved into online flamewars. I’ve also observed more often where two people disagreeing initially come to a mutual understanding and agreement downthread, that hardly ever happens in online forums.

Rentlar,

In simplest terms, the two magnets are trying to pull toward each other equally. But when you glue them on the board, that glue holds the magnets apart, and “pushes” them the same amount that the magnets “pull” towards each other, hence no movement.

There would only be a movement if one side was pulling more than the other. The hand is providing that imbalance at first which moved the car.

Rentlar,

And after all, you’re my falafel…

But why do two jobs? Won’t people do a better job concentrating on one thing and getting $2000 for that, instead of gaining experience in two different areas at the same time?

It’s because McDonald’s was trying to make an excuse that paying people US Federal Minimum wage (7.25$/hr since 2009, it’s still that in 2023) is enough to live on, and utterly failed, even while holding both a 40h a week and 30h a week min wage job. I guess they expect fast food employees to use to make their own fast food while they’re there as their food budget.

It was a case in point in 2013, rent and all expenses are way up since then. People aren’t going to make a living or have any savings at all, probably accruing more debt even with 2 jobs and less than the minimum of expenses.

The Distro Wars are good actually.?

If all the seemingly pointless discussions about which distro is better comes from attachment to a spesific distro and if a distro is just a way to interract with linux than all the discussion about witch distro is better etc. fundementally comes from a a place of love and appreciation for Linux as an OS....

Rentlar,

I haven’t minded the tongue-in-cheek jokes about distros since forever, but people who take it way too seriously, and don’t see that each distro has its benefits and drawbacks are kinda annoying.

Rentlar,

Samir, you are breaking the car!

Listen to my calls, Samir!

Rentlar,

www.protondb.com

Not perfect but Linux is getting there! Certainly much better than before.

Rentlar,

Not since July this year. I do remember looking at reposts with disdain when I was there, though.

Rentlar,

Yep, I’m jaded in my expectations knowing what Lemmy was prior to the massive expansion through June and July…

It was still a fun place, but it was a couple dozen posts a day across all servers, by a handful of people from the bigger servers.

We still have a lot of fixes to make on Lemmy, especially on the moderation, management, and content filtering side of things (though apps have been thankfully filling the gaps on some of these issues). Niche communities still need more participation to get off the ground. I’ll see again where we are in a few months from now.

Well, I want to thank you for sharing your thoughts.

There are a number of thread topics on Lemmy that seem to keep going the same direction (Google, Musk, Gaza, Trump, Windows, etc.), and as you say, it can be frustrating and exhausting…

At the same tine on Lemmy, I had found articles that were worthwhile reading, updates to FOSS that I would have otherwise missed, no shortage of silly memes, and a handful of new perspectives that were positively thought provoking. Those let me look past most of the negative things and stuff that is pervasive on all kinds of forums, Reddit and social media on the whole.

Louis Rossman/FUTO's YouTube app, GrayJay, now supports Sponsorblock... and shames you if you use it

Seriously this was very surprising. I’ve been experimenting with GrayJay since it was announced and I largely think it’s a pretty sweet app. I know there are concerns over how it isn’t “true open source” but it’s a hell of a lot more open than ReVanced. Plus, I like the general design and philosophy of the app....

Rentlar,

Yeah. I use NewPipe myself just to be able to enjoy videos with my screen off, that Youtube has locked behind a subscription for no good reason.

That said Rossman is someone who sticks to his principles and the FUTO group is an extension of those principles. At heart he’s a New York businessman so he knows that people need money to live, but he also isn’t trying to stop people to do what they like with tech that they supposedly have purchased.

Rentlar,

To me it seems almost sarcastic, but it’s funny in good taste.

Rentlar,

The crayon company employs child labour and this girl is drawing crayon wrappers.

Active is kind of a lackluster sorting method imo, Hot is awesome bc you get fresh posts (like Trending on that other site) aside from a couple 3M old posts that show up, Top 6h, 12h, Day are good too. New comments is cool if you want well engaged posts.

Rentlar,

But why the hell would your friends hang out with you if they all hated you?

“Yeah we have too much love in our life, we need to bring someone into our group just to hate on them.” - No friend group, ever, other than bullies.

Gamers who have gamed for a long time

do you find it difficult to get into games? I’ve got Epic Games and Steam Games libraries chock-full of classic top-tier games along with many other newer games like Stray or 2077, and a bunch of indie titles. I just can’t be bothered to download and install them, much less try to get into the characters and storylines. Used...

Rentlar,

100%ing Shadow the Hedgehog might help you learn a language considering how many times you would have to complete the first mission (326 for every possible path). Plus you’d know the word “damn” VERY WELL.
