I think you’ve considerably misunderstood what the Prime Directive is… It doesn’t just apply to unevolved people. It also applies to civilizations that have warp too.

Also literally no, that is not what it means and is an insane comparison.

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

Wrong. I dunno why so many people falsely believe this. The Prime Directive applies to EVERY civilization. Not just pre-warp ones. By that logic, Picard wouldn’t have had a problem taking Wesley in that episode because those people had warp access.

I don’t know whether to slap you or hug you

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

Hell yeah. Then we must figure out a time

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

Huh. Been a while since I seen Nemesis. I must be conflating the two movies.

Also just means the trill had bad taste, that’s all

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

Eh, it is what it is. Some people are just miserable assholes who want to inflict it on everyone else. Says everything about them and nothing about me. The fact that I’ve got trolls following me around and downvoting everyone of my comments or messaging everyone in a thread to lie about me is just proof I’m doing something right.

Well, the question still remains of “symbiotizing what”?

Life as a whole or the multiverse itself as you mentioned. The show made that pretty clear in saying that wherever the network goes, life goes, and if the network dies then life itself dies.

I had just assumed that since it peters out at the border of the galaxy that it ends there. And if it resumes in another galaxy, it seems like it would be discontinuous and thus a separate organism.

Well, in Season 1 we saw a bunch of the calculations and analyzing that was done of the network while they were jumping. The hyphae do seem to connect in a non-linear fashion if they’re able to connect with an alternate dimension. Lorca also did point out that the calculations were showing multiple universes. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it just sort of… bypasses intergalactic space somehow by folding in a way that’s not intuitive to us.

Also nah, don’t need to strike that out buddy. I’d give anything to be one too <3

The Galactica take got me rolling for some reason.

Babylon 5 and Galactica are the ones people have pushed me the hardest to watch. I’ve been meaning to but haven’t gotten around to it. Babylon 5 probably pushed harder on me because I don’t like DS9 and everyone keeps saying that B5 is DS9 but better. Just keep rewatching the same few things over and over again. Eventually I’ll get to it and hate myself for not having started it sooner.

COVID fucked over so much. I dunno how much of a surprise this is but I liked Supernatural and the ending that they went with was garbage. Although the producers have said that COVID didn’t impact the ending that heavily. I hope to fuck they’re lying because if that was a conscious decision then fuck 'em all.

Robert Meyer Burnett, Nitpicking Nerd, and Red Letter Media.

…This is not the take you thing it is lol

Red Letter Media

Ah yes. The self proclaimed racists who use ragebaiting as their primary method of getting people to watch their videos.

Nitpicking Nerd

Ah yes. The dude who openly uses his cynicism in his username and who constantly uses ragebaiting as well to get people to watch his videos.

Robert Meyer Burnett

Fucking who?

Like I said. Unless you are providing examples then I’m simply not taking you seriously. Your dismissal of it entirely and refusal to even attempt to defend your position means you simply don’t have a valid one.

I like the shows but that has nothing to do with this conversation. My liking of the show isn’t the reason why I’m expecting an unbiased/critical review. It’s simply because I have standards. Doesn’t matter if it is for Star Trek, Star Wars, or some show i’ve never even heard of. Anyone who’s going to inject their own emotional opinion into a review, and then refusal to even elaborate on position while doubling down, is someone whose opinion is just not worth the time to read to it.

It’s why I simply do not respect the opinions of people who say “I gave up on Discovery/SNW/Picard/LD in the first or second season.” I never have and I never will. That stance has an extreme double standard and I simply do not have a single ounce of respect for people who push it.

Those shows have around 10 episodes a season.

TNG, DS9, and VOY had about 20-24 per season.

They also ALL started with some really shitty opening seasons. Voyager didn’t get going until season 4ish, DS9 didn’t until late season 2/season 3. TNG took about two seasons to fully find its feet and have some of the most godawful TV of all Star Trek.

The same people whinin about New Trek will sit through all that garbage but won’t sit through 2 seasons of Discovery/Picard when it’s fewer episodes than a single season of OldTrek

If you say you don’t like the show then you don’t like the show. But anyone who says" I gave up after Season 1 or Season 2" I just immediately write off. I’ll still be respectful and kind and polite and care about them but opinions on what is and isn’t good Star Trek? Discarded on sight.

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

… I don’t know how to feel about this…

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

The love between Kirk and Spock is pretty palpable in that movie. Not surprised that even to a non-Trekkie that it would hit hard.

Also… yes. That Saru episode fucked me up. That whole season is a roller coaster. A lot of intensely emotional moments. They’re just gonna keep coming buddy! Feel free to message me about any of 'em if you wanna talk about it. Not like I don’t love Discovery lol

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

Oh yeah, that thought pops up more than I’d like too

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

Like I said… keep these conversations in mind by the time you get to late Season 3 lol

Honestly I hadn’t even heard of St Marie before but then again my knowledge of people who aren’t related to Star Trek is drastically short. And the only culture my room has screams “Broke white boy with an unhealthy Trek obsession”

I might tomorrow… it’s cloudy and cold and shitty today. I miss the sun

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

You sound more Indigenous than Buffy St Marie

That was an interesting google rabbit hole. But i’m pure imperial invader here. Although spending some time out in a park before the weather becomes completely unbearable isn’t a bad idea. Just… lonely.

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

but he was the first

AHA! THAT’S WHERE YOU’RE WRONG! PIKE WAS! HE WINS!

But yeah, I don’t blame you. Kirk is pretty great lol

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

Ohhhhh yeah. Pike is one gloriously attractive man. Yet he also has the confidence and heart to back it up. Picard was always my Captain, hell he was my first, but Pike walked up and just dropkicked Picard out of the chair. Strange New Worlds only elaborated on that. Amazingly good looking man while being a truly amazing man as well. He’s the whole package.

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

Oh totally. To be honest I thought Kirk was the first captain until the 2009 movie. That introduced me to the character of Pike (I somehow missed his TOS episodes) and my love was born.

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

Book… my other beloved…

Also Grudge looks like a 10/10 pettable kitty.

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

When I made that comment I was not expecting actual memes but I will gladly take them

‘Carl’ suggests that Georgiou actually did change that timeline though, doesn’t he?
