I write all my expenses and incomes down onto app called Wallet by budget bakers. I don’t set any monthly budgets or anything however, because I find that keeping track alone already makes me much more mindful consumer. I already have records of my finances for almost 3 years so it’s pretty interesting to get to monitor my spending across a long timeframe.
I block ads as much as possible, which is great for ensuring I see mostly what I want to see via searching or whatever feeds I follow, but it turns out a lot of my feeds are light on general media coverage like books/movies/music/etc....
Seeing the other post here about YouTuber that went downhill and seeing content creators I am familiar with makes me sad. But how about those that still makes great, high quality content?
I don’t undestand the need to have an app for stuff that works just fine on browser. In my books less apps is always better. The desktop and mobile version of Lemmy on browser gets the job done perfectly and is way more polished looking aswell.
It’s going to be very cold over the next few days in my area and I’d like to buy something for the people who are homeless, particularly ones who won’t be in a shelter....
If signal gets the new username feature, this just might be what i do, so fricking tired of people just blindly giving random apps and websites their contact permissions and they get my contact as well, and there’s nothing i can do about it
I just don’t like that anyone with my number can simply just call me whenever they want and not answering is seen as something that needs an explanation. Don’t get me wrong, I think that being able to make phone calls is a great thing but not in it’s current form. Would be much better if people had to send a message first and I could then call back when it suits me or something. It’s crazy that you can just demand my full attention to yourself when ever you want. For the very least it should be something truly urgent.
I’ve been on Reddit for over a decade. But I’m done with that site and want to do something else. What do normal people look at on their phones? Is it all social media? Streaming?
If you keep talking, I can’t stop listening, but I can always stop reading. That’s why I sit in silence at work, but online, I have an opinion for a ton of stuff. Including on what you just prompted me to say.
I write for the pleasure of me. If I manage to make even a bit of sense while doing so, even better.
I haven’t seen Interstellar yet. It’s probably the biggest one though i don’t really watch movies or tv series much anyway so I haven’t seen almost anything recent. Also Godfather, Friends, Reservoir Dogs …
Confronted with the likelihood that we cannot achieve climate goals, confront socioeconomic inequality, and ultimately build a better world without significant personal sacrifice: How much are you personally capable and willing to lose? I mean this in the most earnest way possible. Acknowledging the likely possibility of working...
Not that much if I’m being completely honest. I’ve got bills to pay so I’m going to keep driving my truck to work, consuming stuff and buying meat. I’m more than happy to take part in the collective effort however so when the government sets new laws and regulations to fight climate change I just go with it even if it inconveniences me. Up to a point obviously. I just don’t think that my actions as an individual makes any real difference. I’m not going to live more sub-optimal life than what I’m already living only so that I can feel good about being on the moral highground despite knowing it made no difference. I applaud everyone who does but that’s just not me.
The most comprehensive study of global climate inequality ever undertaken shows that this elite group, made up of 77 million people including billionaires, millionaires and those paid more than US$140,000 (£112,500) a year, accounted for 16% of all CO2 emissions in 2019
So while this obviously also includes billionaires, this group still mostly consists of wealthy upper-middle class. So in other words; people that can afford a house, two cars and few trips abroad per year generate more carbon emissions than the ones that can’t. Shocker.
Would love to know what you guys think and your reasoning for it. I’m starting to see a lot of Apple Watches/Fitbits/Galaxy Watches in my area compared to more traditional timepieces.
It has nothing to do with being or wanting to seem smart. People are fed up with their smartphones already and the idea of getting yet another device that’s demanding your attention and needing to be kept charged up is repulsive. A smart watch doesn’t bring anything of value for people like me.
Anyone can watch videos of some african villages being visited by outsiders and how happy the local population generally appear. There’s a ton of negative stuff for those people to deal with, but I think there’s something to be said about the benefits of communal living no matter how much I try to convince myself it’s fine being by myself.
You could turn invisibility on and off as you like and there would be no time limit. Your clothes would turn invisible too, and you could decide whether the items you are holding would be visible or not....
I don’t know why but I love the feeling of being able to watch people without them knowing about my presence. I spend a lot of time in nature and intentionally dress to blend in and I love that often when I hear/see people near me I can just stand there in plain sight and they still often don’t notice me.
Well I’ve only had two but my current one is basically my dream car so the answer is 2007 Nissan Navara King Cab, 2.5 litre turbo diesel 4x4, all black and murdered out.
People of Lemmy that take more than 5 seconds to start your car and drive, what are you doing?
As the title says…what are you all doing?

Currently I’m trying to decide if I want to use “Top - 12 hours” or “Active”. Which setting do you think is the best one for reading the comments?

What really popular movie or TV show have you never seen?
When I tell people I’ve never seen the Lion King they are really baffled by that.

Is society becoming more fake ?
It feels like social media fakeness is seeping through into real life more and more. and every one is working harder on perfecting their façade ?...
Can't we just start calling it "Formerly Twitter" instead?
Pretty much the title. I think you all know what I’m talking about.
Would you choose invisibility or teleportation?
