How does Usenet content not immediately get DMCA'd into oblivion?

For instance, say I search for “The Dark Knight” on my Usenet indexer. It returns to me a list of uploads and where to get them via my Usenet provider. I can then download them, stitch them together, and verify that it is, indeed, The Dark Knight. All of this costs only a few dollars a month for me....

_number8_,

why is the DMCA the one fucking law that actually gets enforced at a high rate when there are literally billions of things more important that we could spend money on

_number8_,

fr fr i feel like such a horrible loser whenever i throw out groceries, esp produce. how do people plan their lives out perfectly such that it seems like this never happens to a proper adult

_number8_,

pedal steel or any sort of slide guitar

fascinating hunger games is having such a cultural resurgence given how shitty everything in our world is. i love the series but christ every scene is dark and depressing

_number8_,

i’d literally rather die than go to a party. unfocused undirected unscheduled endless socializing where i have to pretend like i’m having 100% fun is a torture sentence

_number8_,

simply use the moisture from the sprayers

The transition from the holiday season back to the normal drudgery is so depressing. Is there any way to make Jan / Feb less depressing?

like, it’s still dark at 5pm, there are barely any sports on, still bitterly cold and austere and it hurts to go outside, but you’re not even looking forward to christmas or the new year. the new year is here, and it’s largely the same as last year. except you’re getting older.

Is there a forum for people who are lonely and sad but specifically not incel sickos?

like you know you’re a good person at heart but life circumstances and trauma and bullying and etc prevented you from learning the proper social skills to find companionship. not necessarily a forum to actually find friends (i find going into things with that intention feels fake and weird), but rather a forum to commiserate...

What was your most awkward moment of the last year?

last time i got a haircut the barber lady was quite cute and chatty and in the middle of the haircut, this obnoxious song came on the radio over the PA whose lyrics were quite literally i’m falling in love with a stranger repeated 50 times, crystal clear, little instrumental backing even. and of course she could feel my...

taco bell in particular is embracing the kiosks and it’s wonderful. they have signs in the lobby saying ‘order at the kiosk’ even. and why wouldn’t you? why do people in the US have this pig-like stubbornness where they must have a human stand there and ‘PeRsONaLIze tHE iNtERacTion’ or some shit

_number8_,

sorry this is gross:

i do not understand american’s aversion to the bidet. why would i want to wipe my ass with dry fucking paper rather than water? why why why. like it’s somehow ‘gross’ to use water. but scraping at wet shit with fucking tissue paper is hygienic and normal?

_number8_,

the way i see it, the world may well end within our lifetime. when the credit card server farms collapse into the encroaching ocean it won’t matter anymore

_number8_,

being overly paranoid about finances

i used ynab for a while but am now realizing it’s probably worse for my mental health to keep track of things that granularly. need to go back to a more zoomed out, normal person sort of management scheme

Current and Former (Fast) Food Service Workers - How do you handle requests like “All the fries you can give me”?

Just curious as I’ve never been on the other side of the counter, how does this sort of thing tend to work at restaurants? Fast food and fast-casual places are where I’ve heard customers say things “pile as much lettuce on there as you’re allowed to” - is there ever a limit your supervisor instructed you for things...

_number8_,

depends on how busy it was and/or how good of a mood i was in. i worked at a pizza place and would usually try to hook people up as reasonably as possible (not charge someone if they were taking off a topping then adding a topping even tho you were meant to, giving like 8 cheese cups if they ordered 5 (mood/rush/etc dependent), ample extra toppings if they were nice, etc)
