• systemd is an init system commonly used in distros like Linux Mint, Arch, Manjaro, Ubuntu, Debian, etc.

• init systems have a process id of 1 and manage services like a login manager, network, firewall service, etc.

• a process id is assigned to every process in a linux system.

the average user usually doesn’t worry about the init system, although more experienced/techy users may care about it.

i use swayfx and runit

i don’t like systemd because it has a lot of stuff that i don’t think should be built-in, for example, why have systemd timer when cron already exists?

runit is nice for me because it’s simple and i like activating services by just soft-linking files to /var/service instead of using some fancy tool

i guess you could just get an ELF binary and rename it to something.exe but idk why you’d do that

i use doas and it has a -u user argument. by default the user is root but you could do doas -u another_user i guess. i don’t know if sudo has the same but it probably doas*.

*i misspelled “does” but i’m keeping it

Wired headphones are the preferable solution to this but we all know what happened to those.

What happened? I use wired headphones, haven’t had any problems recently.

Ohhh, I completely forgot iPhones no longer had those. Thanks for the reminder, I’ll remember to check for a headphone jack before buying a new phone.

wayland solved a vsync issue i had with firefox

  • obs works with full screen capture on wlroots and also with per-window capture on kde and gnome
  • redshift is for xorg. use gammastep on wayland instead
