Can’t say how many times I’ve thought about this the past couple years.

I still have both my parents, but both are about to hit their 70s and their health is already not great. There’s a fast approaching time coming where I’ll never be able to hear their voices again. My dad’s said “love ya” so few times in my life, not because he doesn’t, but he’s from that upbringing where you don’t really say that stuff. He finally picked it up from me a few years ago and now says it any time he sees me. I’ve ended up saving voicemails he and my mom leave, just so I can at least hear their voices again when they’re gone.

Appreciate the time you get with the people you love. It’s easy to take for granted that they’re always there. Someday they won’t be and it’ll be quicker than you can imagine when it happens.

I totally remember being taught this. It’s just way easier to break down percentages in terms of the nearest 1% or 10% times the number in the percent times the number you’re taking the percentage of. You don’t have to do the math for the 1 or 10 percentage as long as you remember that a 10% means move the decimal left once and 1% means move the decimal left twice. The rest is just basic multiplication.

40% of 59 = 10% of 59 times 4.

So…

4x59=236

or

(4x50=200) + (4x9=36)= 236

10% means move the decimal left once,

Therefore 40% of 59 is 23.6

With that you can easily do more complex percentages mentally like…

62% of 35 = 10% of 35 times 6 plus 1% of 35 times 2.

35x6=180+30=210 at 10% so 21

plus

35x2=60+10=70 at 1% so 0.7

Therefore 62% of 35 = 21.7

My alone NYE when the wife is working is typically a dinner of hors d’oeuvres type foods, made throughout the night. Cheese and crackers, some summer sausage if I have it, puff pastries with spinach or Buffalo chicken, pigs in a blanket, mozzarella sticks, maybe some samosas, even pizza rolls. For entertainment, a good video game or two and several of the NYE streams on YouTube to make fun of.

Looking forward to seeing how God awful the Planet Fitness show is this year! Dick Clark and Casey Kasem are both rolling in their graves tomorrow night for sure.

That’s such a shame.

I passed on the opportunity to go down there to study the pyramids back in my college days. I was a few years into anthropology studies and really would have loved to go, but came up with too many excuses not to go… My Spanish wasn’t good enough. I didn’t want to fall behind on classes and push back my graduation. Fucking idiot that I was passed on an opportunity some people only dream of.

One of my Mexican friends was just saying how worried she is to go back down to visit her family and boyfriend.

I tell my clients it comes from prison as a sign you were looking for sex.

Close and possibly true for some, but apparently it was more just that they weren’t allowed to have belts to hold up their pants. When people got released, they continued to wear them loose because they were comfortable. The trend then spread to hip hop and other cultures in the 90s.
