chiliedogg,

College was a fucking mess. It took me 14 years on and off to graduate and wrecked my finances.

But I fucking finished it.

Then I had trouble getting a job in my field and I worked retail for years and it sucked. But I eventually got a job at the front desk of the permit office at the city, and everything started coming together. Within 6 months I got a major promotion. A year later another, smaller city approached me, etc.

I am now making good money in a field I love. My coworkers are great, people respect me, and life is getting better all the time.

Because while I may have stalled several times, I never fucking quit.

chiliedogg,

Do people not know that JFK was called Jack?

chiliedogg,

Time lost at home can’t be made up on the road.

Just this morning I was an hour late. I spend most of my weekends helping my parents a few hours away, so have a 4am alarm set for Monday mornings to get up, shower, and head to work.

Because of the Holiday, my first day of work this week was a Tuesday, so my 4am alarm didn’t go off and I got up at 5.

I got up, showered, sent a text to the team that I’d screwed up, and went to work.

Yeah, I could’ve driven 100mph on country roads and blown through a few red lights in the middle of nowhere near my parents’ place. But I also could’ve died trying that shit. Instead I just drove normal, got to work late, and it wasn’t a big deal.

I get that not everyone works in an environment where getting in late isn’t a big deal. But a lot more people do than realize it. Most workplaces can be flexible, and will be when it matters. If they’re assholes about it when they don’t need to be - look for somewhere better.

chiliedogg,

IR blasters are definitely my most-missed feature.

Having a widget to control all kinds of devices in my house without having to buy new devices or plug things into Google or Amazon was nice.

And never heading to hunt for the remote anywhere was priceless.

chiliedogg,

At thw current rrate of growth it would be larger than the earth in under 1500 years.

chiliedogg,

Rays are awesome. I always tell my student divers not to approach them, but to enjoy it if they decide to be buddies.

chiliedogg,

Fleming was also in the clandestine services.

chiliedogg,

Between Kai Winn and Nurse Ratched, Louise Fletcher make a career of playing punchable women in socially sacred roles.

She was amazing.

chiliedogg,

People have no idea what things cost. Stadiums are cheap.

150 million dollars in a major city might be enough to open a new Walmart. Forget about a comprehensive transit system.

chiliedogg,

The thing about fishing for me is that it’s about exploring the lake and relaxing. It ain’t called “catching” for a reason.

But I don’t really do catch and release. I eat what I catch (provided it’s a legal size/species of course). I feel like catching fish just to catch them is kinda a dick move.

People don’t go out to the woods and shoot a deer in the leg and walk away. So why should we put a hook in a fish’s lip/throat just for giggles?

chiliedogg,

I’d be more excited about this id I wasn’t 100% sure people will be shooting these wolves.

chiliedogg,

Specifically, they had bad dialogue. The story was there.

I mean - look at the scene where Anakin finally changes sides. He walks in and Palpatine is on the ground, defeated and unarmed. Then Mace Windu decides to kill him anyway.

This is a betrayal of everything the Jedi are supposed to stand for. They’re not supposed to be involved in politics. They aren’t supposed to kill prisoners. What makes the Jedi better than the Sith? If both sides are the same, why shouldn’t he side with the group that won’t hold him back?

The "story* laid an excellent foundation across 3 films to bring us that scene.

Unfortunately the dialogue and the direction were shit the whole way through, so it didn’t work.

Is it that Linux is getting popular, or that most people don’t buy new computers anymore now that their phone does everything they used it for, so it’s only the enthusiasts still buying?

chiliedogg,

It’s crazy that teeth and eyes are separate from the rest of healthcare.

chiliedogg,

I once forgot a pear in my pantry when I left town for 2 months.

When I came back it was a stem in a puddle of black liquid.

chiliedogg,

I get that for most people, this is a nightmare. But for me, having lots of varied tasks is fun.

It’s why I took a job at a tiny city with 11 employees in City Hall. Nominally, I’m a permit processor, but I oversee the permitting process, GIS, coordinating third-party services, and more. Yesterday I made a map for the police, processed permits, drove across town to fix a manhole cover that came loose (we don’t actually have a public work department), took pictures for the city attorney of a mansion being illegally built and screwing up city utilities, and fixed a broken printer.

Yes, I’m stupid busy, but I enjoy the variety. I’m also paid more than double what most permit techs are, and have my hands in development, public works, finance, administration, and more. All of which will be useful later in my career when I want to move into city management at a larger town.

chiliedogg,

There’s a million squirrels and I love it.

chiliedogg,

It rhymes, but doesn’t fit the meter.

“By the final reindeer conceived” fits better, but changes Rudolph to the deceiver, not Yulish prince.

chiliedogg,

Back when Blizzard campaigns were so good you paid for the single-player while the online multiplayer was free.

chiliedogg,

Funny thing is I’m terrified of spelunking, but actively working towards being certified for cave diving.

Fill it with water and I’m interested!

I think part of it is that I can’t get stuck as easily with scuba gear strapped on my back, and I don’t have to worry about gravity fucking me over.

And I’ll never go anywhere that requires squeezing my fat ass through a crack.

chiliedogg,

Same ones who said COVID would magically disappear right after the 2020 election.

chiliedogg,

It’s a shitty garden that causes a net decrease in the world’s supply of their crop.

Just another way Olive Garden is terrible.

chiliedogg,

36 hours was like a standard hangover for me after I hit my 30s.

I’m now 40 and haven’t gotten drunk in years because it isn’t worth losing the rest of my weekend and going into the work week for 4 hours of marginal fun on Friday.
