const_void,

Another day another switching post. We need a new community for these posts.

const_void,

How many AUR packages do you actually use? It’s mostly Electron “apps” anyway.

Solene'% : NovaCustom NV41 laptop review (dataswamp.org)

Disclaimer: I’m not affiliated in any way to any of the parties involved in this review. I just enjoy reading Solène’s writings in general and found myself to be especially in fond of this specific article. I share this in the hopes that others might somehow benefit from this as well!...

const_void,

Good to see more laptops being release with Dasharo/Coreboot. Proprietary firmware needs to die.

const_void,

I wish more laptops had the option for Libreboot or Coreboot. I’m so tired of the monopoly proprietary firmware vendors have.

const_void,

Gonna have to shell out a small fortune for a custom build or make do with that dumb new key.

I don’t think this is true. Just buy a laptop from a company that ships it with Linux. No Windows, no Windows keys. It doesn’t have to be ‘custom’.

const_void, (edited )

This is the dumbest fucking thing I’ve ever heard of. I’m not buying any keyboard or laptop that has this key. There’s enough Linux-first vendors these days that it’s easy to avoid (Framework, System76, Tuxedo, etc). It’s time to be done with Lenovo and Dell.

const_void,

Coreboot would be nice, but it doesn’t seem feasible yet…

Why not?

const_void,

Yeah, that’s incorrect. System 76 is producing machines with modern CPUs that use coreboot:

system76.com/laptops/oryx

const_void,

System 76, Framework or Tuxedo. Ignore the people telling you to buy a 10 year old Thinkpad.

const_void,

Lenovo build quality has been shit lately. My IT dept is constantly returning Thinkpads for various issues.

const_void,

because i like the way Hyprland looked

lol

Can this be replicated with opensource software?[p2p file transfer over thunderbolt, and extremely low latency Video and game streaming (no encoding)] (www.youtube.com)

Further if this technology is open-sourced; can it be extended for use cases beyond that(Dual Motherboards sharing Compute power with low latency for working on a single process?); I know such solutions probably exist for servers and enterprises but i am talking about amateurs who don’t have 10K lying around for specialty...

const_void,

I wish more computers shipped with Coreboot these days so we could avoid these kinds of proprietary firmware inflicted problems.

const_void,

There are way way too many testimonials here lately about switching to Linux or installing Arch, etc. These aren’t interesting.
