The transition from the holiday season back to the normal drudgery is so depressing. Is there any way to make Jan / Feb less depressing?

like, it’s still dark at 5pm, there are barely any sports on, still bitterly cold and austere and it hurts to go outside, but you’re not even looking forward to christmas or the new year. the new year is here, and it’s largely the same as last year. except you’re getting older.

Bait and switch.

I’m ditching it. The convenience has gone and content has gone. I built a wish list which is now mostly unavailable.

I need to up my game in terms of automating my torrenting and making it family - accessible.

“You will not believe this 2000 year old strategy, that still works today!”

Alright, I'm gonna "take one for the team" -- what is with the "downvote-happy" users lately?

Title. “lmao internet points” and all, but what is the point of participating in a community that sees assumptions and other commonly non-harmful commentaries/posts as “bad” this easily? Do folks in here are really that needy of self-validation, even if it means seeking such from something completely insignificant like...

You need to be much less fragile, or life is going to be hard. Really hard . I say this because you seem like a good guy.

In all fairness, I’m more of an asshole than a troll. When I’m rude, I’m not doing it for clicks : it’s the real me .

Only if you are entertained by idea of blood sucking vampires getting their face smashed to a bloody pulp .

I’m here for it.

Yes just a couple of bucks here and there.

Almost BECAUSE they’ve done it for free, I like to chip in .

Monsters of the road: what should the UK do about SUVs? [The Observer] (www.theguardian.com)

It’s midnight on the edge of Clapham Common in early September. The streets are eerily quiet as a shadowy figure in black shirt, shorts and baseball cap emerges from the common. He is wearing a red face mask, his features, except for some blond locks, hidden from view.

Attacking SUV drivers is precisely the wrong way to go about reversing the surrender of the public realm to the automobile and it is exactly the right way to start another immature culture war , alienating a lot of potential allies in the fight to reclaim out streets .

The funniest ones are when there’s like 20 shouting at first, but gradually they let it go and move on until there just 2 people left on thread abusing each other .

Random thought: Windows is largely successful because of Piracy

Windows as a software package would have never been affordable to individuals or local-level orgs in countries like India and Bangladesh (especially in the 2000’s) that are now powerhouses of IT. Same for many SE Asian, Eastern European, African and LatinoAmerican countries as well....

@doublejay1999@lemmy.world avatar

When most people bought their PCs, Windows was already bought and paid for and installed by the vendor, so piracy might not have hit as hard as you think.

If you’re Microsoft, that last thing you want is people having a choice of operating system - either in the store, or when they get home - so you make sure it’s a done deal before the PC is unboxed.

That’s SOP for Microsoft, and what got them into trouble when they were bundling Internet Explorer.

It’s also worth noting, that Linux hasn’t always been a competitive desktop product for the home market.

Well public relations 101 is that you refer to anyone who breaches your security as “highly skilled “

lazy trope.

who hires middle managers ? Execs. Why do they hire them ? to keep a layer between themselves and the workers.

so whenever you think your manager is useless, remember he’s not there for you.

No joke.

I had about 15 years between 30 and 45 as a zero-exercise desk jockey and it early killed me.

The deterioration was unreal. Took a few years to get back fitness and any kind of core strength.

So, my best advice to young people with desk jobs : Keep up your exercise, even if it’s just a little.

Then management decide to move marketing in with finance.

IT MATTERS THAT THEY ARE HERE.
