I’m kinda surprised you can see us peasants from that high horse.

Because it’s targeting the lowest common denominator.

It’s generalizing the writing so that it generally appeals to generally everyone to increase engagement. This means that the show loses its specific attractions and it just becomes another generic TV show based in a different world.

Sounds like a common software issue. All the features where developed to 80%, and then moved on to the next feature. Leaving that last, difficult, time consuming, 20% open and unfinished.

It’s the difference between more corporate or Enterprise projects and FOSS projects in a lot of ways. Even once that project matures and becomes a more corporate product the same attitude towards completeness and correctness tends to persist.

(not saying foss is bad, just that the bar tends to be lower in my experience of building software, for many legitimate reasons).

It’s “cultural” in a way depending on the project.

Is that because of who he is or because of his TV personality?

How about we stop encouraging celebrities to hold political office…?

Just like others with a missed , obvious, opportunity.

I had a girl take me to a room, take her clothes off, and then just look at me and and ask “Well?”

I had no fucking clue what she meant or what to do so I just did nothing. She then changed into different clothes and left.

Damn, I texted mine recently and she told me to get over it and grow up :/

Hurts man.

Qxir?

I found too many of their videos have unsubstantiated claims, and illogical/wrong conclusions drawn from inaccurate or incomplete information.

While they may have high production value at a glance, the quality of the information itself is about as good as any other social media thread.

It’s really disappointing to me cuz I would love their videos but I just can’t keep watching them with such inaccuracies…

douglasg14b,
@douglasg14b@lemmy.world avatar

If I was able to remember them on cue I would probably be a lot more interesting of a person.

The topic has to seed first and then all of the information I know about it rushes in.

Might as well be someone on lemmy since you reposted it here?

What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

I’m still trying to de-Google my life, little by little. I don’t trust Bing for similar reasons. DDG is feeling shady of late. What’s the search engine you all recommend that I can inject into my daily life? Is there perhaps a search engine that is focused on code, or have we just all moved on to AI for searching?...

douglasg14b,
@douglasg14b@lemmy.world avatar

It’s either your wallet or your personal information…

A surprisingly and insanely expensive to run and manage a search engine that isn’t just a reskin on bing (DDG). Even more so when you can’t mine your users for data.

Kagei is doing really good stuff and the quality of results I get are much higher. The $10/m is it easily paid off within even a day or two’s use in my normal job. Never mind all the personal research that I do.

Is a different model that is a not providing you with the best results that you are looking for. As opposed to steering you towards ads or towards partnerships. I like it.

Doesn’t matter if the spyware is hardware installed in your SOCs!

Good ol Lenovo.

douglasg14b,
@douglasg14b@lemmy.world avatar

Are they though?

My experiences are much MUCH different. The amount of compute waste is through the roof, and we shrug at +$50k/m provisioning. You don’t even need approvals for that, and you can leave it idle and you MIGHT get a ping from gloudgov after a few months.

    I still haven’t found anything to replace the amateur stuff. I despise production quality porn, it’s horrible stuff IMHO.

    Lemmy is ok, but still not great.

    Self-hosted or personal email solutions?

    I have a unique name, think John Doe, and I’m hoping to create a unique and “professional” looking email account like johndoe@gmail.com or john@doe.com. Since my name is common, all reasonable permutations are taken. I was considering purchasing a domain with something unique, then making personal family email accounts for...

    douglasg14b,
    @douglasg14b@lemmy.world avatar

    Yeah, I use firstname@thelastnames.co

    And EVERY DAMN PERSON corrects .co to .com

    Unfortunately the .com.and .net are both used.

    How do you effectively call this kind of BS out in professional social situations?

    douglasg14b,

    It’s not necessarily a moving target when entire blocks can be associated with Google.

    Depends on how you’re using it. You can wrong an absolutely insane amount of performance out of postgres that you cannot with MySQL.

    I wonder how much next cloud leaves on the table?

    Actively unhelpful, dismissive, comments that shut down discussion or actively unhelpful comments.

    Just like everything else, things are poisonous based on the quantity consumed.

    If you’re downing entire tubes of toothpaste yeah you’re going to make yourself sick.

    One part about this you may be surprised about is that the random updates to software tend to be pushed by UX designers in my experience.

    They want to do “something”, and that’s something often is changing something that currently works. Or pushing for design that goes against UI best practices because it’s their pet.

    …etc

    Stress and burnout killing my ability to sleep. I was barely functional despite being in bed for nearly 12 hours. I can’t even remember what I got my family or what they got me :(

    Other than that, it went reasonably well.

    Perhaps because this is such a typical Linux-bro meme?

    By no means is it more user friendly. I drive it daily, my grandmother most definitely could not, they’re way too many times when something stops working or goes wrong with DEs.

    I calles this ages ago. The federated nature is counter to community growth and discoverability.

    Lemmy as a platform needs support built in for this problem.

    It’s also painful that servers upgrade lemmy versions and suddenly they are unavailable on apps. Or old versions similarly break.

    What inconsequential or surprisingly good thing can I get from Aliexpress?

    Im curious as I usually use the site very occasionally to get certain electronic parts or order from PCBway like I just picked up some cheap but infinitely better than stock gps antennas for my LoRa T beams and im about to get a set of also still cheap but much better than stock 915mhz antennas but i kinda wanna throw some other...

    Why?

    If I put work into making entertaining material, it’s 100% within my rights to publish it where I want to publish it. It’s mine, I made it, if I only want to post it on my personal website or newsletter who are you to say I cannot?

    Calling that a shitty move is in itself an entitled, shitty move.
