I work in construction insurance, protecting the government and investors against construction companies that do this. Our underwriters study the project, the construction company history and everything related and we qoute a price that the construction company should pay even before the government or the investors transfer anything. If the construction company or the project fail for any reason we take control over the project and find a new construction company to complete it. After that, our lawyers go after everything owned by the construction company and their executives to try to recoup anything we can.

Unethical life pro tip: want to kill yourself but left something for your family? Buy a life insurance policy, call the suicide prevention hotline and wait for the cops to kill you. Isn’t technically suicide, so the life insurer can’t deny your family claim!!

I used to work as an assistant editor for Fox Channel in Argentina many many years ago. And there was this trailer for a star trek movie that had the name on text of the crew on the trailer and the scriptwriter wrote “Zulu” instead of Sulu in the script (my knowledge about star trek is limited to the memes of this community) so I complied and wrote Zulu on the trailer. Nobody else notice and was aired like that. the next day it aired some guy I have never seen on my life entered my island with my producer and the screenwriter and the guy was furious, asking me why I wrote the name wrong and telling me that they had been receiving calls from all latinamerica saying thay we were fucking stupid and had to pull off the trailer from air. I show him the script as it came to me in the email and the screenwriter facepalmed in shame. They asked me to correct the name and re send the traileds asap. After thay I learned thay the guy was like the director of costumers relationship and the poor screenwriter was demoted and transferred to write the trailer of the cooking channel.

Recentlish movie with him that I really enjoyed:

Mandy (2018): Slasher/LSD infused terror movie excellently acted by Cage (that scream at the bathroom is a delight), with a really interesting cinematography.

Color of out space (2019): I don’t remember a lot about this one, except that scene at the kitchen.

Pig (2021): seek and revenge thriller that would make you cry.

The unbearable weight of massive talent (2022): funny action movie, Pedro Pascal steal the spotlight, but Cage doesn’t get behind.

Mendel wanted to do his experiments with rats but the church didn’t gave him enough money and support so he had to use peas. Rats genetics are way more complex that peas and it would be hard for him to get to any meaningful results using them.

Years ago, in October I wanted to buy a new TV, my wife said we should wait for black Friday but I just bought it anyway. I keep checking the price day after day and the price of it keep rising slowly every day, until black Friday when it had a 40% sale off and was still more expensive of what I paid two months before.

I used to watch a youtuber that played really hard rimworld scenarios for like me and his other 60 subscribers. When he started to grow up, to like 300 subscribers, he started to diversify his let’s plays and some people on the comments started to complain that he was wasting his time trying other games or mods of rimworld, instead of playing the same ultra hard scenarios again. I was like ny dudes, if he want to do a living of this he can’t marry with just one game, we don’t know if the next game is going to be a banger or if rimworld is going to die. I eventually stopped watching him because he stopped playing those really hard vanilla rimworld scenarios, but nowadays he’s a full time streamer and in the twitch salaries leak it showed that he got 60k at year by twitch. Not a lot of money, but enough for him to call it a full time job.

It’s a joke about how everything is a hamas base in the eyes of the IDF army, and the answer from the Israeli government to any criticism calling it anti semitism.

Kinda related, in the company I used to work everything was done in SAS, an statistical analysis software (SAS duh) that fucking sucks. It’s used to be great, but once your on their environment you are trapped for fucking forever. I hated it and refuse to learned it over what was basic for my daily tasks. A couple of months I moved to another company that used to pay a consulting firm for my job, so my boss and me had to start everything fresh and the first thing we did was to study what are going to use as statistics software and I fight tooth and nails for Python and one of the points I pushed was that if in the future we decide to move out of Python we could easily can do it, while other solutions could locked up us with them.

I am pouring one out to this little champ. Stripping HDCP and letting me... archive streaming services from 2016-2023 RIP (lemmy.world)

What killed it, well after reviewing some PS4 gameplay I noticed that it was having audio issues, like it would allow some sounds but not all. It was almost as if it was receiving a 5.1 audio output but was missing the centre channel. Even though the PS4 was set to stereo....

Im using Jerboa, and one of the functionalities that RiF had that I would love they implement is that everytime you clicked a link a pop-up come up with the address of the link and options to copy, open in default app, share to app or cancel. Saved me a lot of redirects that I didn’t wanted.

I was studying discrete mathematics with a book that had mini biographies of the mathematicians that worked on wharever was being explain on that section. And it had one of them, who considered mathematics an art at the same level as painting or sculpting and hated that mathematicians “lower” themselves to do math that were “useful”, like nobody expects the same “useful results” from the art department. This guy worked really hard to only research on pure mathematics and the most “useless” branch of it, number theory. Eventually, his work helped build the necessary mathematics background to make encryption a thing, and now the entire society use his research. It’s a shame I can’t remember the name of the guy.
