dylanmorgan,

Do you have any links for the bad marks on Purism?

dylanmorgan,

Wow. Yeah, that’s shady and shitty as hell. The cost was always enough to keep me away from them, but knowing they’re a shit company will make me sure to warn others off as well.

dylanmorgan,

Thanks!

I do prefer the version where the bartender says “if you ask me again I’ll nail your feet to the bar!” Duck comes back in, asks “got any nails?” “No, why?” “Got any grapes?”

dylanmorgan,

Can anyone link to the original comic or cartoon? The version I heard was a duck walking into a bar.

dylanmorgan,

“I didn’t wipe it on my ass, if that’s what you mean.”

dylanmorgan,

I use Fedora on a gen 7 Carbon X1 thinkpad and the small amount I use the touch screen has worked fine.

dylanmorgan,

Back in 1997 or so there was a web browser called Vogon Poetry, “the worst web browser on earth.”

dylanmorgan,

Malcolm Tucker would have won the dominion war with pure vulgarity.

dylanmorgan,

I prefer the much more fun “break LED headlights with a hammer” but your solution is less likely to land me in jail I guess.

Considering Gentoo

I have an old iMac that I am planning to install some flavor of Linux on and while I was looking at various distros it occurred to me that it might be a good exercise to install Gentoo on it. Other than a separate machine for documentation and downloading the necessary packages, what else should I have set up to try this? Has...

dylanmorgan,

It’s a 2015 Retina 27”.

I’m fine rocking Ethernet for the purposes of this experiment.

dylanmorgan,

Will do!

dylanmorgan,

I would say if you accept subscription services as justifiable, Duolingo is justified. What you’re raising is poor performance, not a reason for it to be purchase only.

Of course, I would be in favor of “the app is free, pay a set price for a language pack” rather than a subscription for premium.

dylanmorgan,

There was a photo set in some magazine around when Mad Men was filming their last season of the cast in their costumes looking at iPads and MacBooks, it was pretty cool.

dylanmorgan,

If wolverines start eating rich people it will accomplish a lot of good: more food for awesome animals, less rich people and their carbon footprints.

Best distro for Lenovo Carbon X1

I have a Lenovo Carbon X1 that is a few years old (7th gen), and I am running Fedora 38.5 with GNOME 44.5. The issue is that the system does not sleep properly. If I close the lid, nothing suspends properly, so if it is not on a charger or shut down it will die within several hours in my bag. Are there any distros that handle...

dylanmorgan,

Oh wow, I hadn’t ever noticed that when poking around in the BIOS, I’ll have to find that setting, and cross my fingers I didn’t buy a cursed model laptop.

dylanmorgan,

That makes me sad. I’ve made sausage and peppers and it’s great. No Ragu, just sausage, peppers, onions, and potatoes. Par cook the potatoes so they brown nicely, start with olive oil and minced garlic and get everything cooked to where it’s done but not dead.

dylanmorgan,

Good luck with that, I can’t even give it away.

dylanmorgan,

My bet is that it’s to preserve battery life. Driving hi-res screens takes power.
