Yeah people act outside of their own self interest all the time, it’s why things get regulated in the first place and one of the reasons the invisible hand of the market is a myth.

Pardon my ignorance, what is this votey you speak of?

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Exactly this. I was about to answer the question and realize you pretty much already had. Thanks very much.

I mean Mac OS has its place. There’s a reason so many music producers and coders choose that OS. It’s a rock solid stable approach for those use cases.

That being said, personally I would always prefer Linux but that’s mostly because I don’t do those things.

I don’t even particularly hate windows, I just like PopOS better

Did you know that most people live in cities? About 60% of North America live in what is considered to be a metropolitan area.

In most of these areas aggressive expansion of public transit is a no brainer.

It doesn’t have to work everywhere to be a good idea

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

This is incredibly insane when you consider the cost incurred to maintain a vehicle. No poor person would do this in the right mind it would be nothing but a debt trap. It’s shameful that public transit is downright near illegal and most metropolitan areas in North America and it is the best solution get over it

I’ve both been poor and owned a few vehicles and $2000 repair bills happen, more than once in the life cycle of a car and much more than I could ever afford if I hadn’t been better off before I pulled the trigger in cars but down take my word for it John Oliver did a great peice on how bad of a debt trap they are on average

I know that they only recently got opengl support and it was pretty primitive so I would imagine they have some work to do on the GPU side

Sarcasm is a risky gambit here. I picked up on it but some people really need that /s

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

I guess they need to get the chestnuts ready for that open fire they’re about to have.

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah you need an Intel 8th gen or a ryzen processor in order to use it without a workaround. Something from the last 6 years.

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Correct, I was trying to keep it simple but yes more specifically you need a TPM 2.0 capable system

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

I guess it’s at least more environmentally friendly

Now this is what I call thinking outside the box

Have all that I could need at the moment but i’d like to take this opportunity to wish others a Merry Christmas

Isn’t end to end an encryption broken if any of the clients use the feature to send from Mac OS

franklin, (edited )
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

This just comes off as defensive and needy. I’m not even sure if encryption is affected by syncing with icloud, I was just raising a concern if that was a real reason for using it

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

A seedbox might work for your needs. However they come with a monthly cost.

I’ve always been drawn to FOSS alternatives because they aren’t driven to try to create value by having unnecessary bells and whistles, they just work and continue to work as the years go by

As profit first software gets worse over time.

I don’t even think you have to fix every issue. Human existence by nature requires us to use and change our environment and our job is to minimize that so we can continue living on this planet.

Both of those examples solve our issues to a point where they’re non-existent. Yes, they’re still produced but they’re well within our manageable amounts and would reverse much of the damage we did if we did them on mass.

I’m not even necessarily against electric cars. I just don’t want one personally, I don’t think they’re great or even the solution, but they’re certainly better than combustion. They just still aren’t great, especially when we already have the actual solutions.

Can I just have good public transit, or safe bike lanes, I don’t even want a car.
