grue,

Apple paid to license the trademark. The various BSD projects didn’t.

grue,

…Oh, it’s a virtual library implemented in Minecraft.

That’s a relief; for a minute there I was terrified that it was a library of NSFW Minecraft mobs.

grue,

Damn it, now I miss the zesty chicken bowl!

grue,

a matrix printer in another room

It’s “dot matrix printer,” you phony!

grue,

I feel like the space station needed its polarity reversed a lot less often than the starships did.

grue,

Bold of you to assume the child wouldn’t already be intimately familiar with it from firsthand experience.

grue,

Firefox nightie? What, did new merch just drop?

grue,

Do the Wayland devs care about implementing network transparency yet?

grue,

It’s hardly worthy of being called a “window server” if it isn’t network transparent…

grue,

The only non-bullshit downside of Snap is the proprietary server-side and the lack of multi-repo support.

I think most people agree on that point, but believe that it’s a big enough one to be a deal-breaker.

In what way is Snap superior enough to Flatpak to outweigh that downside?

grue,

It just time and diligence to save

It’s just having the self-control to live below your means.

grue,

No, a traditional IRA would be even better for that. With a Roth, you can withdraw the principal without penalty since it was after-tax to begin with; it’s only the gains that you get punished for taking out. In contrast, any amount of withdrawal from a traditional account incurs a penalty (with a few exceptions, such as using it to buy your first house or whatever).

grue,

Government gets a gain from it – it gets its money sooner that way!

grue,

I found this even more helpful.

grue, (edited )

You realize the telcos themselves know exactly where the spam calls are coming from, right? You can be damn sure that functionality was a top priority from day 1 because (just like for all subscribers) they need to know the spammers’ usage in order to bill them for it.

They just don’t bother passing that information along to end users or law enforcement because nobody’s forcing them to.

grue,

A Honda Fit would be marginally better. A bicycle would be vastly better.

grue,

I’d get an electric, self-driving pleasure machine, but no way I can afford it.

Just get a bicycle already! Thinking your only other option is an “electric, self-driving pleasure machine” is such a false dichotomy.

grue,

one of the new small diesel trucks

There is no such thing.

This is what a small diesel truck looks like:

Nothing like it is made anymore, at least not for the US market.

grue,

They’re butthurt that being white men doesn’t give them enough unfair advantages anymore, and they’re not capable enough to succeed without them.

grue,

wow, this tender distance is terrible

“Tender distance” sounds like some kind of song name.

grue,

I see you’ve put some thought into this.

grue,

I completely agree that electric motorcycles don’t belong on bicycle paths. However, Class 2 e-bikes aren’t motorcycles.
