helenslunch, to movies in Gen Z is turned off by onscreen sex, wants no-mance over romance, a new study finds
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

I’m 36 and had internet porn since before I got puberty.

But yeah, I agree. I skip sex scenes now. I don’t feel like they add anything. Like you can just cut out all the nude backs and moaning and nothing of value would be lost. We get it, they had sex, move on.

Not stupid, just greedy.

They’re gonna make money from selling whatever data they can mine from your mobile device and likely selling you monthly subscriptions.

Yeah no shit. I didn’t remove anything. Just added it. The part you ignored is still there.

Go ahead and honor your promise to be “out”.

helenslunch, (edited ) to selfhosted in Am I in over my head? Need some encouragement!

I’ve been working on this on and off for a few months now. The more I learn, the deeper the hole gets. Ports and VPNs and UPNP and TCP and UDP and hosts and containers and firewalls and on and on. It’s a lot.

Many times I can’t get things working properly, if at all, and other times it works perfectly one day and then several days later, after changing absolutely nothing, no longer works.

My current goal is to get a Mobilizon instance and a Jitsi server running, to hopefully get a community started up there that meets up regularly to help each other, and to make onboarding easier.

I tried to ask for help around here and, while a few kind people did offer to help (and disappeared shortly thereafter), I was overwhelmingly lambasted for daring to ask for personal help.

I don’t trust anyone. You don’t have to trust them. That’s the point. Everything is open source and encrypted.

But aside from that they’ve been audited several times and they have a good reputation in the community.

I could but it’s pretty simple. You’re the owner of that domain. Any accounts/communications with that domain can be traced back to you.

helenslunch, to privacy in How to prevent link hijacking on sites like Facebook, Reddit and Twitter?
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Links from Twitter shouldn’t have any Facebook tracking info

That’s not what I’m saying.

helenslunch, (edited ) to linux in The Linux Experiment Channel (From Nick) is on Peertube, and it federates right into Lemmy as a community
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

is this community the Peertube channel?

Lemmy “communities”, PeerTube “channels”, Mobilizon “Groups”, Kbin “magazines”, and Mastodon “Groups” are all functionally the same thing in the Fedi.

You can follow Lemmy communities on Mastodon as well, it just has a different (bad) UI. That’s why you’ll occasionally see users on Lemmy annoyingly @ 12 people in a reply.

helenslunch, to linux in How many of you run a Linux phone (Pine64, Librem etc) as your daily driver?
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Would really love to but have yet to see basic phone functionality covered in a way that isn’t a painful compromise. Stock Android is a privacy nightmare, which is why I left it.

I’ve been using GrapheneOS for about a year now and it’s a giant leap in privacy and security (much better than iOS), with very little compromise in functionality.

helenslunch, to linux in gamescope through the heroic launcher is WAY better than steam
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Game scope is a micro-compositor

What is that?

it’s how the Steamdeck handles games and probably steam.

So why would I use this in HGL instead of Steam?

I pirate because I’m not paying for a profitable product that I could otherwise get for free.

Right!? It’s not like it cost money to create that work! Let all the schmucks pay for it!

You’re not different people though, other than some of you are honest and some of you are just conjuring up bullshit justifications.
