hperrin, to linuxmemes in Year of the Diagonal Linux Desktop, y'all

Only if I also get a dodecahedral phone.

hperrin, to asklemmy in What are some tech predictions for 2024 that actually could happen?

I’m really hoping my email service gains more traction. People are so accustomed to crappy email providers that the current providers don’t really innovate anymore. I think it will actually have a chance of catching on, because it’s such a different way of doing email.

Hopefully there is a solution to that problem right around the corner.

hperrin, to selfhosted in Those who are self hosting at home, what case are you using? (Looking for recommendations)

I’m using a Fractal Meshify 2. It’s big, but I highly recommend it. It can hold 11 HDDs. I’ve only got 6 in mine, and it’s quite roomy.

We invented Bed Bath & Beyond in that time though. That’s not nothing.

hperrin, to asklemmy in Is CCleaner still people's preferred computer cleaning app?

Let me get you a copy of Ultimate Boot CD. Or, are you more of a Hiren’s BootCD user?

hperrin, to asklemmy in How can a naturally anxious person keep from worrying while laid up in bed with a broken ankle and leg?

I don’t really have any advice for you, but I hope your surgery goes well and you start feeling better soon. I’m sending good vibes your way!

I don’t like Google trackers.

Edge isn’t installed by default on any of the computers I use, and I’m not a huge fan of all the junk they put in it.

Also I just downloaded it on Mac and it’s a .pkg file, so that really sets off alarm bells.

hperrin, to memes in The size of a what

Are we talking volumetric capybaras or massive capybaras?

hperrin, to asklemmy in What do you use to backup all your photos and documents, cloud or external drive or both?

I have a server in the garage with a big RAID array, and I run a Nephele WebDAV server on it. All my PCs, and my family’s PCs back up to it every 3 days.

It also streams all my movies and TV shows on a Jellyfin server.

Also, to be extra cautious, I have a server at my in laws’ house with a 20TB hard drive that I periodically sync that RAID array to.

(Full disclosure: I am the author of Nephele.)

Bake me, oven daddy.

hperrin, to piracy in Amazon clearly lying about "ownership" on Prime.

I had an Oculus account. I bought games for Oculus. Facebook forced me to link my Facebook account to it. Facebook removed Oculus accounts so it was all under Facebook accounts. Facebook deleted my account. I no longer owned the games I bought. I deleted the Facebook app.

hperrin, to selfhosted in Nephele WebDAV server for Docker

Yes, thank you. I’ll add that to the overview.

hperrin, to opensource in Nephele WebDAV server for Docker

It does. The Windows built in WebDAV client was not great until Windows 10, so that might be what you’re remembering.
