hperrin, to asklemmy in What's a button you hate tapping or clicking accidentally?

Q in Minecraft. It throws whatever item you’re holding. Sometimes I’m frantic trying to fight something and I end up tossing it my sword. If it’s a zombie, they can pick it up and use it against you.

hperrin, to linux in Upgrade vs Reinstall

If you’ve designed everything correctly, then yes, it should be much easier to deploy a new instance on a new machine than to upgrade an existing machine.

This exactly. Because some poor shmuck might spend two hours trying to get Nextcloud to work with it.

hperrin, to lemmyshitpost in So that's who started this...

The other day I was talking on the phone with a friend and I said out loud, “how many damn polar bears do I need to click to get into your fucking store”, and he knew exactly what I meant.

hperrin, to asklemmy in What are some dark sides to cute super-powers ?

Also even if you are protected from the repercussions of moving at super speed, anything you move isn’t. If you carry your friend across the street, your friend is now pulverized and probably burnt to a crisp. If you move your water bottle, congrats on delivering a pressure vessel of steam to wherever you just went. Acceleration that fast and impacts at that speed would destroy basically everything you touch while moving at super speed.

hperrin, to linux in Why do you use the terminal?

My server doesn’t have a GUI, so the terminal is what’s there. As for my desktop, terminal is just easier for some things. And for my own stuff, it’s easier and faster than building a GUI for all the things I’m doing.

hperrin, to linux in Dumbest Thing you have done distro-hopping?

There is a way to recover it. You can use a root shell aka recovery shell (usually available through your GRUB menu) to change the permissions on your home directory. But just reinstalling was probably easier anyway.

If you build it, they will come.

hperrin, (edited ) to asklemmy in I use Brave to test whether my websites work on Chromium browsers, but their scummy actions lately make me want to find a new Chromium browser to test with. What's the best Chromium based browser?

I haven’t tried Vivaldi. Is it available on Linux?

Edit: Looks like they do with both .deb and .rpm packages. They’re not on Flatpak, but the rpm would work for me on Fedora.

hperrin, to selfhosted in Question: Best UI to manage VMs and containers?

So first, I’m not really looking to change operating systems. I’ve got my system set up the way I like it, where it closely matches the production systems I run for my company.

Second, why do you say the answer is Proxmox? What benefit does that have over other solutions that can be more easily integrated into my existing operating system?

Beer can in an English accent is bacon in a Jamaican accent.
