Depending on the ICE car, a similar EV can actually be more noisy, because of the heavy battery causing more road friction = more noise.

That’s really only because most of our electricity is still produced through fossil fuels. As we move to renewables, that equation will shift rapidly toward net positive much before 5 years. And that’s not accounting for any technological advances (like sodium ion batteries) that happen in that time.

The Boy Scouts trained me for this moment.

hperrin, to asklemmy in Which internet meme, if somehow erased from ever emerging, might have the biggest impact?

Does it have to be an internet meme? Also does God count as a meme?

hperrin, to asklemmy in What's an amusing thing to say before going under general anesthesia?

I like that a lot.

hperrin, to asklemmy in I use Brave to test whether my websites work on Chromium browsers, but their scummy actions lately make me want to find a new Chromium browser to test with. What's the best Chromium based browser?

Their latest thing that pushed me to look for a new testing browser is installing a system wide VPN on your computer without your consent.

Yes. I’ve considered that, but does it still report back to Google? Even though that majority of what I visit will be “http://127.0.0.1:8080”, I’d still rather not be spied on by Google.

hperrin, to asklemmy in Do you know of any obscure useful websites?

I feel you. Technically, the service is in a public beta test, only because I don’t have all the features complete yet.

I have the IMAP spec printed out in a binder at my desk. I have to write the server myself because of how Port87 works (I can’t just use an off-the-shelf server, like Dovecot). But I’m working hard to get IMAP support out soon! :)

PS: also, once I do write it, the IMAP server will be open source, just like the CardDAV server I’m working on.

Those are just changes to the build system. The last upstream release was 7 years ago. Last commit to the main branch was 6 1/2 years ago. This project is unmaintained. It should be forked by someone who is passionate about it.

hperrin, to opensource in Don't be that guy.

I am. Thanks! :) I built my email service, port87.com with it.

The vast majority of pickups don’t have sloped bed walls. The only other one I can think of is the Chevy Avalanche, and they aren’t sloped the whole way to the tailgate, only part way.

Wow. How did they get it out without it exploding?
