I’m a millennial but I don’t really like romance/romcom all that much for the most part unless it’s in anime format for some reason. For movies and even TV I generally prefer action, violence, thrillers, etc. I have no idea why, I think it’s kind of interesting that the medium changes my preferences so much lol
Also there can be social consequences from what you say, free speech does not protect you from that, despite some people thinking that it does or that it should.
Yep, games being designed to support Ubuntu first is a big reason why I’m so far into Ubuntu. I could easily switch if I needed to since I’m both a programmer and very comfortable with Linux but for me, it does everything I need an OS to do.
I use Ubuntu. It generally tends to be boring stable, which is kinda what I want out of my OS these days. I can still customize it, and even break it if I really get bored, but it’s nice to have things just work for the most part.
Upvotes aren’t even working on lemmy.ml instance currently since there’s an SSR bug, I think it counts the upvotes but it doesn’t display that I’ve upvoted something lol
As always, the paying user has the worst experience. “Purchase” a show, can only watch on a certain console of a certain brand, no transfers, no backups, then it suddenly disappears from the library and nothing can be done....
This has actually always been my reason for piracy. I’ve always been able to afford games, thankfully, so I’ve used piracy as a means of demoing games as demos became more and more rare and more commonly and more importantly I’ve used piracy as a means of preserving games. I have no problems paying for a game if I can also keep it indefinitely and play it forever, and thanks to piracy that is actually possible.
It’s honestly pretty stable at this point. There’s only maybe one or two bugs left but it’s very usable. I’ve enjoyed the conversations I’ve had on here too.
They could have easily crammed the Steam Deck full of stuff to make it hard to use for piracy - locking down everything, making it usable only to play games you legitimately own, force you to go through who knows what hoops in order to play games on it. That’s what Nintendo or Apple or most other companies do....
Also as CRTs become more and more rare as more of them die off and new ones typically aren’t manufactured anymore, it’s not surprising that the prices are just skyrocketing lol
I think the point was that despite him being top 5% of earners in his country, he’s still poor and thus still pirates.
For me it’s always been different, I’ve always pirated from a data archival perspective, which is why I’m also a maintainer/contributor of several open-source data archival projects.
I actually have a bit of an interesting combo. I use Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with xfce4 and xubuntu-desktop added after the fact with my install that used the regular Ubuntu installer, because the last time I used the XUbuntu installer, it was buggy for me. lol
Honestly I agree 100%. I feel like there are some things that shouldn’t be joked about, and to actually go through with a pretend proposal like that is fucked up beyond words.

I feel like the Steam Deck is the best proof of Gabe Newell's quote that "piracy is a service issue."
