isVeryLoud,

The “thingy” looks like anal beads.

You’re welcome.

Definitely the correct answer.

It’s a drag and drop appimage manager, like macOS DMGs. And it’s a flatpak!

isVeryLoud,

Same, it’s a “it just works” distro.

Micro***t Word on Linux and alternatives

Are there good Microsoft word alternatives that support Linux (I don’t mind closed source)? Libreoffice is meh and only office is quite good, but are there any better ones? Also, is there a way to install word on Linux using wine? When I do that my laptop just overheats and loses internet connection.

isVeryLoud,

It’s all programmer UI, really.

Even the tabbed view was hard to use for me, especially the impossible to use “styles” box that scrolls a narrow view. I use it all the time on MS Word, and much prefer how they handle it.

Also, no CSD, so the title bar kinda just chills there, meanwhile it’s used in Microsoft Word.

As a GNOME user, I’m happy to see it’s GTK, but idk why it’s not Libadwaita.

We’re never gonna get one cohesive UI on Linux, it’s always gonna look out of place somewhere.

If the backend is not tied to the UI, it might be easy to reuse the work for a Qt6 front-end.

isVeryLoud,

I’d rather pay than have ads. I think advertising is a plight upon humanity.

isVeryLoud,

Because if you’re gonna use an antivirus, Defender does just fine.

They all more or less use the same viral signature database and definitions, and are mostly feature-matched with each other. Why look beyond what your computer came with unless you’re installing something integrated with an RMM tool?

Ubuntu Server for me, much less finicky than Debian, more stable than Fedora.

I need my servers to just come up and go, and Ubuntu does that.

On a desktop, Fedora for me, because it’s semi-rolling.

isVeryLoud,

Wayland is ready for most people. You’re free to keep using X11 if your use case isn’t covered yet.

isVeryLoud,

I do that a lot, is it that bad?

isVeryLoud,

I have CPTSD, ADHD and Autism. Could be any of the above!

isVeryLoud,

Actually if you leave Quebec towards Vermont, the pavement changes significantly and becomes pink-ish.

isVeryLoud,

Depends where lol, but it’s true in general.

Is ProtonVPN worth it?

@piracy

Got reminded of this while reading about ProtonMail. The reason I haven't gotten into proper is that I don't have a VPN for torrenting, and the reason I don't have a VPN is that I don't . So it would be nice if I got a good VPN while myself.

Will ProtonVPN rat me out to Comcast? I know some VPNs don't hide what you're downloading from your ISP, for reasons I don't fully understand.

isVeryLoud,

i.e. seeding
