lud, to piracy in OpenSubtitles.org is shutting down it's previous API. Now only authenticated access allowed.

People in this community can be a bit extreme when it comes to never paying for stuff and the need to justify it.

I also like piracy but the constant justifications attempts are pretty annoying.

I am not familiar with who owns who in the USA. I do know that news wouldn’t get made if no one wanted to pay for it.

The subs are still free for casual users the ones that need to pay are power users that download through the API.

The API users won’t upload subs or anything, website users are more likely to do that.

I doubt I will switch provider because they seem to be the best by far and I download 1-2 files per movie/series automatically via Bazarr.

If anyone knows any non shit options please tell me.

I agree, it’s probably the streaming service I use the most apart from Plex.

lud, to piracy in How to begin setting up a media center?

Hard? I did it really easily a few years ago. The hard part is naming everything correctly, not setting it up.

With Plex it also sets up remote access automatically which I don’t believe Jellyfin does.

lud, to asklemmy in Do you know of any obscure useful websites?

Audiobookbay.nl works pretty well (best public tracker I think) for audiobooks but the absolute best source for audiobooks and ebooks is the private tracker myanonamouse.net

lud, to piracy in Disney is gouging customers with a near doubling of subscription costs.

Haha, paying for a service isn’t the same as being ripped off.

Why are you posting so much about streaming sites in this thread?

People that feel superior for not paying are so stupid.

Some people actually like the ease of use, user experience and legality of paid streaming services.

People that try and justify piracy because X are also so stupid.

I like piracy because free is nice, but some people think that they are morally in the right, because “companies bad”. I won’t say that piracy is theft but the industry obviously needs people that do the right thing to survive, and making fun of people who do is very counterproductive.

And the quality of (newer) physical media far surpasses the best of free and paid streaming services.

You can get the same quality by downloading though.

If you have to use any, I recommend “micro” It’s very easy to use and has mouse support by default. Many of the shortcuts are also reasonable, like Ctrl+z for undo.

lud, (edited ) to memes in You do know you can just click the "reject all" button, right?

I guess you just have to swear a lot or something.

Or accept that the ads are paying for the service that you use.

lud, to memes in But hey, at least everyone supports webp now.

Safari got full support in march 2023

The newest version of edge which is currently in beta also supports it

Can’t you turn them off? I thought that was the only option if you didn’t reach a thousand subs or something

lud, to piracy in How do you discover new content?

That’s what is mainstream popular. How do you find stuff you actually like ?

Is it impossible to like mainstream stuff?

He does still own the trademark though.

Framework seems nice but only 4 ports is a huge deal breaker.
