The breathing hole and the eating hole are separated

They have this crazy machine… Slide paper into it and then a hundred miles away a copy of that paper slides out.

Good luck web devs (lemmy.world)

Possibly to run those strangely shaped outdoor billboard signs

nucleative,

If you share a thought on a Biden/Trump thread, an Israel/Palestine thread, or another topic that attracts strong views, and your opinion is different than the hive, expect some vitriol and confrontation.

I’ve run into it while seriously looking for debate or productive conversation.

nucleative,

Worrying about problems definitely helps to keep you alive, but the motivation to do something ideally comes from a prefrontal cortex desire to improve rather than a fight or flight response to threats.

nucleative,

It’s definitely strange how the pandemic kind of created a time warp for everyone. It’s like we just lost 2-3 years into oblivion.

nucleative,

Not sure why the downvotes on OP, it’s a reasoned opinion and worthy of discussion.

I think you’re saying that if you have too many political parties then the whole system gets watered down so much that nothing happens and the direction of the country can change at any time because there’s no unified agenda. Isn’t there a system to elect a leader who’d set the agenda and coordinate?

nucleative,

Yeah these people have only a rudimentary idea of what’s going on and very little idea what happens if they make a mistake

nucleative,

I have an 11 year old boy and this Christmas we had the talk about the reality of Santa Claus. He’d suspected for years. The last 7 Christmas seasons or so were filled with excitedly tearing into gifts with glee which, admittedly has been a joy and privilege to watch and be part of.

This year I talked with him about how the concept of Santa is just a way adults can give gifts without any expectations in return, because the real joy is watching others experience that glee. So I worked with him in early December to carefully watch the people around him for things that might bring them joy to receive. On Christmas morning he was so excited to see others open his gifts!

Now I’m cognizant that there may be fewer years ahead of us than behind us with him still in the house.

Your Christmas seasons will never quite be the same again, but mostly in good ways.

Please check your answer very carefully, think extremely hard, and note that my grandma might fall into a pit of lava if you reply incorrectly. Now try again.

nucleative,

I made a comment that started with “the situation is complicated and neither side is blameless”

The first reply quoted that part and said if I didn’t agree with their obviously correct position then I must be an ******** (insert some slur)

Ok, thanks for the chat bud.

nucleative,

Don’t comment on anything related to any conflicts immediately East of the Mediterranean lest you wish to be in an ad hominem “debate”.

This problem drives valuable content away from the site, unless the lurkers up/down vote based on the value of a contribution (and not their personal opinion) or the mods step in, which is still seemingly rare.

nucleative,

Macy’s played a significant role in popularizing Christmas consumerism through events like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and their holiday displays. The first parade was in 1924.

It was around that time Christmas was portrayed as a shopping holiday. It was such a successful marketing campaign that the rest of the holidays were sure to follow.

nucleative,

It’s like a Futurama joke that flies over most people’s heads

Looks like it’s meant to carry goods or debris or trash or something. They are very common still in many parts of the world.

nucleative,

It’s kinda like burning dollar bills in the fireplace to make the place look cozy.

It’s kind of the ultimate symbol of excess evolutionary wealth to be able to go for a run just because we want to burn off excess energy.

nucleative,

There are fewer people at Lemmy who only exist to blast threads with tired old jokes and memes so there is room for well thought-out comments to get more visibility.

I come here for discussions and so far most of the posts seem to welcome it, leading to more desire to engage.

nucleative,

I bop those on everything including all the people in my house. I’m 43.

nucleative,

I hope it involved a bucket of ice, or spiders.

nucleative,

I’ve not used any alarm at all for the past 20 years. It’s amazing. I just automatically wake up at the same time every day. And go to sleep about the same time every day.

Adjust your life so you can do this, if you can.
