You might want to try migrating your nextcloud instance to postgres instead of mysql/mariadb. Many people says they get some big performance boost. I’m going to try it myself next weekend to see if it’s true.
I recently was gifted a raspberry pi 5 and was looking at domains to buy to host my own instance. What happens to my instance if the domain expires?...
I don’t think you can change your lemmy instance’s domain yet. Afaik there is no official way to do it. FMHY lost their domain (they are using a free domain and lost it) and was attempting to switch to a new domain for their instance and developing a tool to migrate to a new domain, but somehow decided to start fresh and discard their old data instead. No idea what happen with the migration tool they were working on (is it actually working? did they actually released the code?), so save yourself some headache and make sure to never lost your domain, which means don’t use free domain because that domain isn’t actually yours and can be yanked without any notice.
Can you recommend a Bluetooth dongle that support s version 5.3, not too terribly expensive and available in Europe? Preferably works out of the box on Ubuntu LTS, but compiling my own kernel is also acceptable....
Actually I haven’t been able to get Bluetooth 5 dongles to work on Linux. I only have success with Bluetooth 4 dongles.
What are you going to use the Bluetooth dongle for? Connecting Bluetooth peripherals, or headphones? If it’s exclusively for Bluetooth headphones, using a Bluetooth audio dongle (which is detected as a USB audio device in Linux) works much better than using the Bluetooth 4.0 usb dongle for audio purpose because you can use low latency aptx codex and Bluetooth 5 without messing with random drivers from some github repos
Out of the box it can play audio in the background, and now that extensions are available you can block ads as well. You don’t really need constantly updating 3rd party clients or questionable firewalls anymore if you just want usable youtube on a phone.
IIRC AdGuard iOS content filter works on safari a while ago to block youtube ads, but that was before youtube began its war against adblockers. Haven’t tested it again yet.
Instead of guessing, looking at the log might help. Launch the game with PROTON_LOG=1 %command% set in “Set Launch Options” setting in the game properties. The log file will appear on your home directory.
I posted this as a comment in another post but when I got done I realized it would probably just be better as its own post. I’m sure I could find the answers I need myself but frankly I trust the userbase here more than most online articles....
VLC usually can handle everything you throw at it. The other popular and capable media player is MPV, though it’s not as user friendly as VLC but has tons of advanced features.
Wait, so the benchmarks mostly contradict claims that bcachefs is almost as fast as ext4 except in application startup time? What kind of test performed for that application startup time benchmark?
install an x server app in your phone (e.g. XSDL) and start it
install Termux from f-droid (the one in play store hasn’t been updated due to changes in play store policy that prevents Termux package manager from working)
in Termux, run something like DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0 ssh -Y user@hostname
My desktop would crash back to login screen after playing mass effect legendary edition. After exiting the game, if the desktop idle for a while, the moment the automatic screen off kick in, the CPU fan would whirl and if I wiggle the mouse, the desktop would immediately crash back to the login screen. Not sure whose fault it is, nvidia 545, EA, wayland or gnome.
Youtube has better anti-adblock now. Other than Invidious, any way around it? Purging and re-dowloading the ublock stuff didn't work
Miro/Figjam alternative?
Hi! I’m searching for a Miro or FigJam alternative to self-host on my Raspberry Pi 4 Kubernetes Cluster. Any ideas for a good whiteboard software?
Do any of you have that one service that just breaks constantly? I'd love to love Nextcloud, but it sure makes that difficult at times (lemmy.world)
