redcalcium,

If you’re using Sunshine on an nvidia system, you’ll have to patch your nvidia driver to be able to use nvenc and nvfbc without restriction. Check out this repo for more info: github.com/keylase/nvidia-patch

redcalcium,

If nextcloud is overkill, then just serve the file with Apache (with directory listing turned on) and put it behind oauth2-proxy. It’s as simple as it can get.

redcalcium,

Deploying openstack seems like a very fun and frustrating experience. If you succeed, you should consider graduating from selfhosting and entering hosting business. Then, maybe post your offering on lowendtalk. Not many providers there use openstack so you might be able to lead the pack there.

redcalcium,

Maybe Affine? They have self-hosted dokcker image with armv7 and arm64 support: github.com/toeverything/docker so it’ll probably work on your pi4.

redcalcium,

I’m going to try this next week. My nextcloud instance is getting a bit sluggish lately.

redcalcium,

I haven’t tried this myself, but it seems if you want to mount multiple virtiofs drives in the guest os, you’ll have to use WinFSP.Launcher instead of default virtiofs windows service. You’ll need to:

  • stop and disable the default virtiofs service,
  • setup WinFsp.Launcher
  • run a command to mount your drive one by one

This wiki has the info on how to do that: github.com/…/Virtiofs:-Shared-file-system#multipl…

Problem while trying to setup an instance (lemmy.world)

Hello! I’m currently in the process of seting up an instance (for personal use, testing some stuff). I ran into this issue and while I did find some threads about it, they were not conected to Lemmy and I don’t have any ideas how to solve it myself. For context -> i’m trying to set up the instance on a remote device,...

If you’re not familiar with Ansible, I recommend to install your Lemmy instance using docker compose or Lemmy Easy Deploy.

If you still want to use Ansible, make sure to use version >= 2.11.0 . From the screenshot, chance that you might accidentally installed v2.10

redcalcium,

Instead of forwarding ha.yourdomain.com to 192.168.178.214 (which I assume is the lan ip address for your machine), you should forward it to a hostname called homeassistant (which is the hostname for the home assistant instance inside your docker compose network).

redcalcium,

An Nvidia RTX graphics card is required to use this mod.

redcalcium,

Don’t wanna spend money to upgrade the closet junk because that’s where retired stuff from other devices ended up. Eventually an old SSD would ended up there though.

I’m not saying to ban all sex scenes from all shows, but when a significant proportion of new shows these days include sex scenes compared to shows from the previous decades, it’s clear that netflix producers just shoving them into shows even if it’s not relevant to the show’s plot. A litmus test for this is if you can replace those soft core scenes with black screen and the plot is literally unaffected, then sex scenes on that show would provide no actual value beyond fan service. Of course, not all shows are like this, but a significant proportion of them do these days, which is why a lot of people (inculding me) is getting fed up with them.

redcalcium,

If you missed them maybe you can persuade those wikifeet contributors to join your lemmy instance.

redcalcium,

It’s a long shot, but sometimes when I have issues with proton which I can’t figure out, switching from Wayland to X11 (or vice versa) magically fixed it.

redcalcium,

Instead of guessing, looking at the log might help. Launch the game with PROTON_LOG=1 %command% set in “Set Launch Options” setting in the game properties. The log file will appear on your home directory.

redcalcium,

These days I don’t even bother installing fail2ban or changing ssh port anymore. I’ll just disable root and password login and be done with it.

redcalcium,

“read the friendly manual”

redcalcium,

Thanks! Some of the tips are certainly not obvious to people not familiar with mastodon like me (follow a lot of people first to discover stuff they boosted then prune it later, follow people that boosts a lot).

This might work:

  • install an x server app in your phone (e.g. XSDL) and start it
  • install Termux from f-droid (the one in play store hasn’t been updated due to changes in play store policy that prevents Termux package manager from working)
  • in Termux, run something like DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0 ssh -Y user@hostname
redcalcium,

My desktop would crash back to login screen after playing mass effect legendary edition. After exiting the game, if the desktop idle for a while, the moment the automatic screen off kick in, the CPU fan would whirl and if I wiggle the mouse, the desktop would immediately crash back to the login screen. Not sure whose fault it is, nvidia 545, EA, wayland or gnome.

redcalcium,

Have you verified that this is not a DNS issue? For example, is curl http://1.1.1.1 working, while curl http://ip.me not working?

redcalcium,

Why make coleslaw when you can deep fried (or air fried) the cabbage. Less effort and tastier result.

redcalcium,

My language is not gendered, so yes, writers do have to work harder when they want to imply gender without explicitly mentioning the gender in their writing. But it also makes concealing a character’s gender easier to make it harder to guess the plot.

redcalcium,

It’s more like Hindu thingy. Other cultures with heavy Hindu influence also have similar caste system.
