The chain wallet looked goofy on this 70 year old guy, that’s all.

I saw this 70 year old guy waiting at the hospital today, with his 70 year old wife in a wheelchair, produce wearing by his brand new TRUMP hat (along with a chain wallet, like he was 20 and it was 1996). My thought was: why the fuck does this loser have to fuck up society before he dies of old age?

  1. The way people use tabs is bizarre to me. My ex would have so many open that it was really difficult to navigate between them. Seems like a better idea to use features like bookmarks or reading list.

My favorite dumb Dr. name was "Dr. Furr's" from Furr's supermarkets in the 80s

Sometimes they even just repost something they found on the internet

New York style is great, but it’s often floppy… it it? Idk. I lived in Connecticut and was amazed at the gas/wood slate ovens and how they’d make a medium-thin pizza that was super crispy from edge to center. Chicago style is a whole other thing, though! Plus don’t leave out Detroit!
In MN they make the weirdest “cracker crust” pizza which they cut into squares, even when the pizza is round. It’s… okay.

I feel like I’d have to put at least some Parmesan on top.

Also, squib!

Saying "I want to know how they deal with parking", assuming they have vast parking garages and a shrug emoji is what I interpreted as puzzled. If you're not clear it's a reference to access to public transportation.

It's true though that many Americans have never lived in a city with functional public transportation, so they don't even consider it. I lived in a city with a decent light rail system and it wasn't really reasonable because I would have had to walk 1.5 miles across hellish intersections (or taken an uber?) to even get to a train station, and I lived in a fairly urban area.

There's a Christmas market about half that size in Denver. I've never been puzzled about how people get there.

Ketchup would be one of my last choices anyway. Maybe with certain mains like fried chicken or chicken fried steak (ok, some people say that's weird but it's what we did at Furr's Cafeteria).

Right now, probably Marie Sharp's Beware Habanero sauce. Second choice, chimichurri.

    There is no “ackshully” and he didn’t call anyone a liar. He just said a statement was incorrect.

    “Axis of evil” was a GWB and Cheney thing. I don’t think Obama ever used the term.

    Is there an artist so horrible that no matter how hard you try that you cannot separate their art from them?

    Similar to the recent question about artists where you can successfully separate them from their art. Are there any artists who did something so horrible, so despicable, that it has instantly invalidated all art that they have had any part in?

    @squiblet@kbin.social avatar

    That's the point though, that some people will use the 'but chicken sandwich is good' as a justification to overlook the other problems and still buy them. My ex and Hobby Lobby, for instance - she'd want to go there and shop for paints because they 'might have a sale', and I was just uh, no? Fuck Hobby Lobby.

    The Rick & Morty guy kind of ruined his show, too.

    It's more a "I'm a manly dude who is good at catching fish! I enjoy leisure time on lakes and I have a boat!" than a promise that they'll eat the fish. At least half the time it's catch and release fishing anyway.

    squiblet,
    @squiblet@kbin.social avatar

    I know a fair amount of girls from Minnesota and Oregon who would like that because they're into fishing themselves. They grew up fishing with their fathers.

    Yeah, where I used to live up north, even very remote lakes were poisoned with mercury said to be from coal burning in China. People were advised to not eat fish from the lake more than a few times a week or once a week for certain fish. So... tons of people just ignore that or don't even know about it because they either don't really understand or believe it, have poor information sources, enjoy the experience, or it's all they can afford.

    'fanum tax' = some streamer or tiktok or youtuber or something called fanum who takes people's food and says 'fanum tax'
    'ohio' = I think it's about "ohio vs the world" which has something to do with the entire US being Ohio
    'gyatt' = exclamation about a big butt
    'skibidi' = reference to this bizarre series called skibidi toilet which features toilets with heads sticking out of them doing battle with robots with cameras on their heads

    The joke or reply-bait (like dallo describes!) posts aren’t great content. Looking over the community it’s mainly moderately serious topics that do make for decent conversation… I don’t see anything about Linux (?) so I assume that’s just your stereotype for Lemmy.

    Cheese doesn't sound that great when you think of it as milk that's been left in a cave for a year and infested with bacteria

    squiblet,
    @squiblet@kbin.social avatar

    Exploring a cave is great, but I sure as fuck wouldn't try crawling down a tiny hole going down at a 70 degree angle. Some spelunkers are straight nuts though, like they get to the end of a cave and say "wow, the wind is whistling through here!" and try expanding small openings with a hammer and chisel or even explosives. I went caving one time in a well known but very long cave, with experienced people, and that was really interesting. When i got back I read my friend's cave incident journal, which details all the rescues and deaths that happened in the last year, and it was... interesting. Shit like "oh, jimmy got stuck, so we had to break his ribs to get him out". Great.
