Why do most people refuse to accept that they are wrong

I have come across a lot’s of people like these. like 99% of them. Sometimes it makes me think twice if what i am saying is wrong? What’s wrong with them. Is it so hard to swallow your pride and acknowledge that the other person is speaking facts? When they come to know they are wrong they proceed to insult/make fun of...

Ego has been mentioned. Sunk cost fallacy plays a part. Combine those and people tend to over value the effort they've made to form their opinion, either through some form of information consumption or synthesis of known ideas/held opinions, while devaluing/doubting the existence other people's previous efforts. So, you often end up with two people who both think they're informed and assume the other person is just making up an opinion right now and failing to see their valuable insight.

So, since you're support staff and economically a cost center and not a producer, they make more than you, right? You advocate for their wages first, right?

Wasn't meant as a personal attack. Shoulda put it on the Amidala meme, I guess. 🤷‍♂️

The problem is waking up. Sleeping would be great if it would just keep going.

Did those trees, before there were decomposers, have access to nitrogen fixing bacteria? Where were they getting ammonium and nitrate?
Just stuff built up from lightning, nitrogen and oxygen?

Edit: Looks like land dwelling soil forming bacteria started in the Cambrian. Then, in the Ordovician the first land plants. Then, in the Silurian vascular plants and trees appeared.

Didn't sign a write-up I got on purpose and got fired on the spot, because I needed additional time for finals at school. Got my job back under union rules because lack of progressive discipline. Left for a better job 6 months later when I graduated.

Manager was pissed. But he couldn't do shit.

Hot is still relative. Are you talking about soup, a cup of coffee/tea or outside temperature? People would probably answer differently in each instance.

Don't female lions do most/all of the hunting and child rearing anyway?
Male lions don't do shit but fight with other male lions (and kill cubs.)

Doesn't the price tag on the shelf usually have a break down per sheet or sqft?

More importantly though, how much is enough?

They were once marketed as being from Tangier, a city in Morocco where a few are grown. They've more recently been called Mandarins, because they're in fact native to China.

I use an instapot. A few hours might be too long to leave rice in there. I don't know. I usually at least turn mine off within the first hour or so and do something with it. Pretty sure food safety guidelines don't recommend leaving rice on warm for hours in any case.

A lot of Americans don't realize how small European refrigerators are. And, that storage space, in general, is more limited.

That nitrogen is fixed inside root nodules on the root system of the bean plants. It's taken up by them immediately. It's not available to the corn or anything else growing nearby.

And, you misquoted me.

uphillbothways,
@uphillbothways@kbin.social avatar

That nitrogen isn't really made available unless the plant has been turned into the soil as green manure at flower. Harvesting the bean crop (protein/nitrogen rich itself) leaves the soil about neutral, maybe somewhat depleted depending on how the field is cleared and prepped for the next planting. Also, there's research showing that some corn can fix some nitrogen itself on the slimy exudates of aerial roots.

Makes sense. Thanks!

At some point I learned to clean as I cook, washing each item immediately as I'm done with the step that uses it. If you can get in the habit, it's so much easier. Never a huge stack to clean and nothing sits there getting stuck on the pot/plate/whatever. Dishes are done before sitting down to eat and there's only a couple when you're done eating.

Usually abdominal pain, severe indigestion and/or diarrhea. Being barely able to eat and actually digest enough normal food to survive along with near constant stabbing pains to the gut have really helped me stave off any concern of over eating and obesity.... It's terrible. Don't recommend. And junk food makes it worse. Which just sucks more cuz that shit is delicious.

Seed comes almost entirely from the female plant ovule. The male gamete, transported in pollen, makes but a minor contribution in catalyzing the process. Hell, many plants form fruit and sometimes even unfertilized yet viable parthenogenetic seeds without male genetic contribution. Seed is a poor metaphor in this instance.
