But doing simple things like just writing to a secondary hard drive is a non-issue in windows whereas in Linux it was a whole learning adventure.
What do you mean by that? Are you talking about RAID, having some partitions on separate drive or something else? Because if you mean just using secondary drive for files that’s just as easy as on Windows with most distributions.
Or did you mean installing programs to secondary drive? Yeah… I have no idea how that can be done. By a quick 4 minute search it seems… that it’s a problem.
So yeah, I can see a problem here. So many computers have something like 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD.
This is extra maddening with my banking app recently. I even set up split tunneling for it, but it still somehow figures out the VPN. The problem is, it doesn’t let me do ATM withdrawals nor generate one-time virtual cards. Ironically, it still let’s me view full details of my physical card…
So just disconnect from VPN? Oh, not so fast. It remembers that VPN was used at some point, and I’ll have to deactivate the app and then reactivate it without ever connecting to VPN.
Since I have to deactivate and reactivate it daily, immediately when needed, this has led me to decreasing the security by using virtual card reader for 2FA kept on same device as opposed to using physical one and keeping it at home as I used to before this BS.
This is what I mean by the physical 2FA card reader: https://i.imgur.com/QrcEkko.jpg
Yes, that’s the only thing at hand I had to cover the card number :)
user224 in here. I just made a mistake.
Firstly, I only wanted to test out SDF.org without wasting my username, but somebody decided to verify me out of their good heart. Then SDF.org announced their Lemmy instance. I didn’t know what Lemmy is, so I used my SDF username.
I can’t change it now.
(i.imgur.com/kOnEf5O.mp4)
It still technically works, it’s just that the door doesn’t close properly, making it kinda useless. It was only shut off due to high temp alarm, which I am surprised took so long to turn on as there was some gap in the doors all the time.
Not really preferred, but I do have a printer already. A 20 years old HP PSC 1315. It still works, and I don’t even know how after my USB port replacement attempt which was also my first soldering attempt, and it ended terribly. But, it does seem to make a connection, so it works for now. I didn’t know what flux is, and I used the highest temperature, 520°C. As I said, no idea how it works, but it’s been like that for over 2 years.
It’s not perfect, but it works. It only has partial support by HPLIP, so to print in high DPI I need to use a Windows 7 VM with the drivers. That then takes 20 minutes per A4 page. The colors are quite poor and it has quite large borders. If scanning anything with color, I need to play with contrast and saturation in Scan2PDF, otherwise most colors are just invisible.
On the plus side, I found an app called NokoPrint that allows me to print from Android phone using this printer via USB.
So yeah, that smart tank would have been much better, but there would also be extra e-waste. I can deal with this printer. Actually, I got this from e-waste, so I even saved some. Also, they took it with extended warranty and some insurance, making it €207!!! I don’t want such an expensive gift.
