vzq,

I definitely do not count it against them as long as they know how to human at the interview. I just review the code as I would any repo.

The only thing is that with regular projects I tend to go “I noticed on your GitHub you have project X that uses technology Y, etc etc”. With H projects I just go “do you have experience with Y” and let him choose how much he wants to share about the project. So far they remain vague on the non technical details and I let them leave with their dignity intact.

So, ranked, way ahead of candidates without visible projects, but slightly behind people with projects we can discuss in detail in front of the people from HR ;)

vzq,

I love it when I check out am applicants’ GitHub and run into a bunch of repositories with mods for hentai games.

That’s a huge strawman jk. We really just want the hets to stop trying to harm/kill people that are different from them.

TEH GAYS WANT TO DESTROY THE FAMILY is vintage homophobia and really needs to go jk.

vzq,

I’m low key annoyed about the whole “it’s a social construct” to mean “it’s not real”. Social constructs are real as fuck and they can fuck you up good.

The economy is a social construct. Days of the week are a social construct. I still need to show up to work on Monday morning so I can give my socially constructed fiat currency to the grocery shop in order not to fucking starve.

I know they are dinosaurs, but the fact that someone was drawing comics about checks in 2017 is just baffling.

I don’t recall seeing a check since the late 80s.

vzq,

I’m going to start this article off by saying that you don’t have to be born in the boomer generation to be a boomer. You can be a boomer by acting like one. Hate new stuff? boomer. Run a desktop from the naughties? Boomer

Why even bother having words at all if we’re going to redefine them for clickbait?

vzq,

I’m sure there is some worthwhile content in there, but I couldn’t discern it through your palpable contempt for the reader.

vzq,

This is the contempt I’m talking about.

The problem is not GP’s window manager/desktop environment. It’s just that you fundamentally despise your readers.

vzq,

We hating on salt and lemon juice now?

What’s next, hating on butter and flour?

vzq,

These jokes were old in June 1994. Give it a rest.

vzq,

Just like tentacles and obstacles!

Alright, I'm gonna "take one for the team" -- what is with the "downvote-happy" users lately?

Title. “lmao internet points” and all, but what is the point of participating in a community that sees assumptions and other commonly non-harmful commentaries/posts as “bad” this easily? Do folks in here are really that needy of self-validation, even if it means seeking such from something completely insignificant like...

vzq,

Downvotes? What are those?

Signed, a blahaj account.

The attraction of goth gf is just that it’s the only subculture archetype where it’s acceptable to be sexy and not thin like a rail spike. Hence, big tiddy goth gf.

vzq,

The current 13 inch AMD framework is a very neat machine.

Broke a partition. Is there any way of saving it?

While I was switching distros, I accidentally broke a partition. I’m almost certain that all the data is there, but it doesn’t have a filesystem (I used ext4). Is there anything I can do to fix it, similar to changing the file extension without changing the contents. PS: It’s a data partition. I was trying to resize it,...

vzq, (edited )

That’s what people always underestimate about data recovery jobs: you need lots of space. One copy for safekeeping. One to work on. One disk of the same size you store recovered files on.

Whenever friends or family ask me to look at a disk I always tell them to give me the disk and two new ones of the same or greater capacity and I’ll give it a shot. Usually they discover the data isn’t that important after all. If it is I have all I need.

vzq,

That. Unless Domino’s has a completely different pricing strategy in the US, They are the expensive option.

I like eating dominos once in a while, it’s a great sweet fatty snack, but it’s not cheaper.

vzq,

I used to live by that rule, but it turns not everyone likes to be treated the way I like to be treated. So now I just ask how they want to be treated.

Just a trick I picked up from the BDSM subs ;)

vzq,

Why am I seeing a whole bunch of pictures of female Japanese adolescents dressed like Donald Duck?

vzq,

Tbf I know people with PhDs in two unrelated fields, and they are definitely supervillain material.

You know what’s it like to do a PhD and you want to do it again? Psycho alert!!

vzq,

Those LinkedIn emails are getting out of hand.

vzq,

And good riddance. They were technological marvels, but the continuously slipping release dates made them obsolete the day they were released.

vzq, (edited )

Unfortunately there is no one calling the shots. We’re all just drifting.

Billionaire doing the wrong thing is just a really simple story that journalists know how to write. The rest of the world is a convoluted mess.

vzq,

If we are doing online and non free, just use office365 or Google docs. At least your project mates won’t hate you.

Which sequels/prequels/spinoffs made the originals somehow worse?

The Matrix is an often used example, but for me it’s the Alien Prequels - especially Alien: Covenant really makes the Original Alien much worse. When the original was released in 1979 it had the perfect Monster. A dangerous killing machine of unknown origin. The missing background of the alien is a big part of its scary mess....

vzq,

The last season of game of thrones turned it from a huge entertainment sensation to a cultural non-entity.
