Im neither a Christian nor a bible expert but i thought satan was just one of 7 deadly sins and not the punisher of bad people? Wasn’t there an entity called “the devil” that is referred to as satan and/or lucifer but is basically an entire different entity to lucifer and satan? Also isn’t hell a general place of suffering/redemption and the deadly sins are just luring people there?

That’s how i understood it. Didn’t read the bilbe tho, only got this from references and random fun “facts” over the years so it could be completely wrong

I didn’t believe in astrology until!

I read that as we leave the age of Piscean Age of hookey bullshit and then enter the age of aquarius hookey woowoo bullishit that humans are leaving a time of Christ and entering a time of

Proponents of medieval astrology suggest that the Pisces world where religion is the opiate of the masses will be replaced in the Aquarian Age by a world ruled by secretive, power-hungry elites seeking absolute power over others; that knowledge in the Aquarian Age will only be valued for its ability to win wars; that knowledge and science will be abused, not industry and trade; and that the Aquarian Age will be a Dark Age in which religion is considered offensive.

… and that for a moment made me go … huh.

paddirn,

I’ve read that astrology is actually an accurate predictor of personality, provided the person believes in it. It becomes a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy where the person that believes in it assumes the traits that they’re told they’re supposed to have. Many of the traits given for each sign are so universal that everybody probably exhibits some amount of all of them at some point in their lives. Believing in astrology though probably causes people to focus on those aspects more because they’re molding their personality to fit what they’ve read.

I imagine people predicting stuff about different Ages are just molding their worldview to fit whatever they’ve read, that theory definitely has a pro-religious bias. Winning wars was valued long before the time of Christ and it’s atheists that are considered offensive, not religions.

130 km/h is a slow sound barrier

stebo02,
@stebo02@sopuli.xyz avatar

it’s not a limit

ursakhiin,

From Texas. I’m actually kinda surprised to hear how slow people are driving there. Our perspective is largely that the Autobahn is generally people driving closer to 160km/h.

We have roads here that are limited to 136km/h. So it’s kinda surprising to find out that most Autobahn drivers aren’t breaking that speed.

Flumsy,

You just drive at how fast feels safe to you. On an empty Autobahn (or on workdays where traffic is usually faster because people driving at that time are more experienced) they do go 150-200 km/h. (90mph - 125mph) But not in the middle lane on a Sunday afternoon…

I personally feel comfortable up until about 150km/h

SubArcticTundra,
@SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ve heard that Texas has some of the highest speed limits in the US as well don’t you?

ursakhiin,

Our max is 85mph (~136kmph) in some areas. I think that’s the highest in the US.

Setarkus,

Well, it’s the suggested sound barrier

SubArcticTundra,
@SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml avatar

You might have problems claiming accident incurance if you break it but must people go above it anyway

Setarkus,

Apparently so because they’ll definitely make good use of the time they gain by doing so. Definitely won’t just end up wasteing it later on or before

I don’t even watch porn and still I always get uncomfortable when someone sees my screen. Is it really that difficult to knock, and come in after you have received some kind of response?

MBM,

Yeah, I (used to?) always switch to my desktop when someone’s coming in, regardless of what I was doing. I wonder if people think I’m looking at porn non-stop.

TheChargedCreeper864,

I always do this and your comment specifically made me realize how that could look to other people.

At least sometimes they get to see a flash of a Word document when I’m half a second too late

I drink it because all the objectively better alternatives are illegal

I once had a deduction from my deposit for a paintbrush and can of paint left on top of a kitchen cabinet; it had been left by their team when I moved in.

Letstakealook,

You left it there the entire time you lived there?

bamboo,

I have some paint in a cabinet which was leftover from when I moved in. I figured it might be useful if I need to touch up anything (although I haven’t used it in 2 years yet, so it might not be good anymore). At first I thought that another person’s comment was weird, before realizing I’m basically the same, except that I leave the paint in a cabinet.

MystikIncarnate, to memes in EVs

I’m entertained by the fact that everyone gets hung up on how EVs are still not totally green because the electricity comes from coal fired plants or that there’s still manufacturing emissions and stuff…

It’s like, yeah, but compared to an ICE car, which has all the same problems (environmental cost of manufacturing the vehicle, mining and refining the fuel, transporting it, etc) but EVs don’t actively pollute nearly as much during use, and they speak as if these are of equal environmental cost, and they’re not. Additionally, ICE vehicles need a lot more oil to operate that needs to be changed and disposed of every few thousand miles.

It’s like doing less harm isn’t valuable to the people arguing against it, but then again, those are probably the same people who drive their V8 truck to get groceries.

vithigar,

Plus there are plenty of people, like myself, who live in areas where the electricity comes from mostly renewable sources.

MystikIncarnate,

Me too. I’m pretty well surrounded by nuclear and hydro-electric here in southern Ontario.

pingveno,

Also, charging from the electrical grid means EV’s immediately get future improvements in CO2 usage when the grid improves its mix of power sources.
