I just mean that usually when I say something controversial, the people arguing against that are from all over the place, but in this case the opposition seems to be coming from these two instances almost exclusively. At the moment it seems almost certain that it indeed was a malfuncioning Hamas rocket shot from Gaza strip and there’s plenty video evidence to back that up.

Yesterday, at 7:00 PM, Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, which is our partner in the Diagnostic Cancer Treatment Center, was hit by two Israeli rockets. Fortunately, the extent of the damage was limited.

Today, the hospital has received orders from Israeli authorities to evacuate the facility, including patients, staff, and 3,000 Gazan people who have sought shelter within the hospital’s premises.

We call the international community and all humanitarian organizations to take action to prevent the evacuation orders for Al Ahli Arab Hospital and the other 22 hospital, as this action poses a significant risk to the lives of numerous patients.

The third floor of the Al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah was struck by Israeli shelling, killing four people and wounding dozens, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health spokesperson.

“Today’s attack on the Al-Aqsa hospital is the latest in a series of attacks on and near medical facilities in Gaza, which have been struggling to cope with thousands of injured people since the Israeli offensive began on 8 July,” said Philip Luther, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Amnesty International.

Norgur,

Phew. Thanks, mate. I was about to answer when I saw the home instance of Mr. Tankie over ´there.

CascadeOfLight,

The argument for it being Israel:

  • Israel has complete air superiority
  • Israel is conducting a bombing campaign against Gaza
  • Israel has threatened to attack hospitals
  • Israel has previously bombed hospitals
  • Israel has previously bombed this exact hospital
  • The audio and visual characteristics of the bomb and the damage caused (captured by multiple, independent observers) match with a JDAM guided bomb, which Israel has already used
  • Israeli sources first claimed the hospital was a Hamas base or had Hamas tunnels or arms caches, before rapidly rolling back their position to "we didn’t do it"
  • It is clearly in Israel’s interest to kill Palestinians and destroy Palestinian infrastructure, especially medical services and supplies, because they are conducting a genocide

The argument for it being Hamas:

  • Israel says it was

Reddit, or rather reddit-logo, is controlled by the US security state, so r/combatfootage - which banned all combat footage from Palestinian viewpoints - is not a reliable source. The idea that a ‘rocket piece’ could accidentally fall on a hospital and kill 500 people (a number reported by a first-hand MSF witness) is laughably absurd. If a Hamas rocket could cause this kind of damage, Tel Aviv would look like the surface of the fucking moon. It was OBVIOUSLY another genocidal act by the entity continuously and overtly engaged in genocidal acts. To think otherwise requires you to want to fall for their propaganda. No one in full possession of their faculties looking at the facts dispassionately could possibly conclude it was anything else.

Thorny_Insight, (edited )

If it was JDAM then where are the pictures of the leveled hospital/crater? Where are the pictures of 500 dead people? That’s A-grade propaganda material for Hamas so why isn’t it all over the internet? All I’m seeing is this picture which judging by the fence and tree is from outside aswell as this with a matching fence, couple burnt cars and some damaged roofing tiles. Ofcourse there’s also the video posted by IDF of aerial footage which matches that picture from the parking lot and shows a very much intanct hospital building.

EDIT: Here’s a video from that same parking lot. I wonder why they aren’t filmin the leveled hospital instead.

SomethingBurger, to linux in So... how to fix this?

What filesystem is on the disk? If it’s NTFS, you’ll need to fix it on Windows (right click, Properties, Tools, Check).

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

It is, thanks I’ll try that!

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

It worked, thanks a lot! What would be the Linux alternative to do that?

FalseDiamond,
@FalseDiamond@sh.itjust.works avatar

If it’s just the dirty flag (it was uncleanly unmounted) you can try

ntfsfix -d /dev/sdc1

Still probably better to boot into Windows and let it deal with it (ntfs tools are still reverse engineered stuff after all), and check journalctl before doing it, but it works in a pinch.

SomethingBurger,

ntfsfix but in my experience it doesn’t really work if it can’t mount the drive in the first place.

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Guess I’ll need to keep W10 around haha thanks again

allywilson,

Can you reformat that drive as exFAT? That should remove NTFS as being a reason to keep Windoze around (and even if you do need Windoze, it should be able to read that format fine as well).

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes, I just learned I can use a different filesystem to avoid (or at least minimize) these issues in future. I tried formatting a portable HDD and I could only pick FAT, that should be OK since I picked “Linux compatibility” or something like that in the format wizard!

ReversalHatchery,

If otherwise you don’t plan to use windows on that machine anymore (on bare metal, a virtual machine is not relevant here), it would be better to transfer your data to a Linux native file system. Unless you have a solid preference, ext4 is a good choice.

Basically you just need to copy your files over, but you may need to do it in chunks (and resize the 2 partitions in every round) if you can’t hold the files if the NTFS file system safely while you reformat it.
Also, if you want to keep attributes like file creation time and last modification time, that’ll require a bit more copy parameters, if you want this let me know and I’ll fill you in on the details.
What distro do you use by the way?

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ll keep it in mind, but since I’m getting new, bigger drives I think I’ll just wait for and format them directly in the better filesystem. I tried formatting an external HDD and I think I could only pick FAT or NTSC (I’ll double check), hopefully on the internal drives it will be different!

I’m on Pop!

SteveTech, (edited )

If you’re using gnome disks, it hides the more Linuxy file systems behind an ‘Other’ option.

Personally, for removable drives I prefer to use

  • ext4 for HDDs
  • f2fs for SSDs
  • exfat for Windows compatibility

If it’s grayed out or you’re getting errors try searching up ‘how to format as [file system] in [Pop OS/Ubuntu/Linux]’, you might need some extra packages.

bec, (edited )
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, most options were greyed out. I’ll have to visit the wiki of my distro haha thanks for the tips though

edit: actually, just checked, EXT4 isn’t greyed out, but it says “internal disk for use with Linux only” and since it’s an external/portable HDD I didn’t pick that option

SteveTech,

I’m pretty sure there’s no difference between internal and external ext4 (at least how gnome disks handles it), so I think it’s just trying to make sure users don’t freak out when they format it as ext4 and think their data is all gone on Windows.

Also when it’s grayed out you usually just have to install the fuse driver and file system tools, IIRC for exfat you install exfat-fuse and exfatprogs.

Atemu,
@Atemu@lemmy.ml avatar

There is none. NTFS is a filesystem you should only use if you need Windows compatibility anyways. Eventhough Linux natively supports it these days, it’s still primarily a windows filesystem.

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Oh, I see. So you’re saying that, when I have the chance, I should move to a different filesysten and that would avoid me issues as the one in the OP?

db2, (edited )

FAT is older and has fewer features but it’s better supported.

@woelkchen@lemmy.world avatar

Atemu,
@Atemu@lemmy.ml avatar

If you’re only using this filesystem on Linux anyways, absolutely.

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes, I’ve basically moved permanently over to Linux and do 99.9% of the things on it. Had to boot Windows for the first time in days only to check whether or not my HDD died after I couldn’t mount it

I’m still in the process of optimizing stuff around Linux (e.g. media drive filesystem) but I’ll get there haha

Atemu,
@Atemu@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m still in the process of optimizing stuff around Linux (e.g. media drive filesystem)

What do you mean by that?

possiblylinux127,

You could use btrfs on Linux and install the windows driver. The Windows driver isn’t what I would call stable but it will work if your mostly using Windows.

Another option is a windows virtual machine instead of dual booting. With a VM you could simple transfer files with magic wormhole or something similar

Atemu,
@Atemu@lemmy.ml avatar

From what I’ve seen, that’s a great way to corrupt your filesystem.

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Nah, all Linux is good. I don’t really need to use Win and since all my HDDs are for media storage I have no reason not to use them on Linux only. They’re only mine and don’t have to hop from PC to PC. Thanks for the input though

rufus, to lemmy_support in Banned for not breaking the rules, but disagreeing with a mod

People of Lemmy,

I see more and more toxic behaviour here. I get that this war/conflict gets to us. And everyone has strong opinions and the debate is emotional. But it reminds me more of the toxic atmosphere that used to be part of Twitter.

I suppose the mods of political communities are having a bad day since the conflict escalated. And they are part of the debate, sometimes maybe making their decisions emotional, instead of neutral and based on reason alone. I -personally- think a 30-day is a lot, even if it is spreading misinformation. But I didn’t have a look at the facts here.

Judging by your comments in general, you seem quite an argumentative person. I usually don’t like people focusing on negativity and (for example) debunking a single argument out of a post and then concluding they’re right and someone else is entirely wrong. It leads to us having unproductive and stressful conversations, once we manoeuvre ourselves to opposing sides that lose the ability to communicate productively and grasp the bigger picture and the context that things are set in.

So. Please whoever is in the right or wrong, make Lemmy a nice place and not a clone of the toxicity and argumentativeness on Twitter. And don’t yell at people too much.

OP, please be aware you’re often a very argumentative person and a big part of your way of talking to people is opposing them.

I’m well aware of that. It’s the reason I’m on Lemmy on the first place. I love a good, long debate but I still try and be polite and listen to the counter-arguments and engage with what people are saying instead of attacking them as a person.

rufus,

Judging by the comments here, I’d say it isn’t working. (That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily your fault at this point.)

All I want to say is: You and the people outright attacking you here are setting the tone of the conversation. I don’t feel entitled to lecture anyone on how to spend their time on the internet. For me, this thread is too toxic and not my vision of what Lemmy should be like.

Unfortunately, the really toxic people have arrived here, targeting you and spreading hate. I don’t think this going to become a productive conversation after that. And I really don’t have good advice here. I’m going to flag the comments that are hatred and then I’m out. I’m going to focus on some more productive things somewhere else. I wish you the best. Hope Lemmy strives to become a space for diverse opinions, constructive debate and not hatred and small-mindedness.
