Dude am typing this on my neighbors wifi XD. Btw they left the 5ghz band public so have been using it for the past 1 year or so. Lol its quite fast too!

I’ve been doing that for 6 years when I didn’t have internet connection. I was 8 when I got a first smart device, Android tablet. One of the first things I tried was connecting to Wi-Fi of all neighbors. 2 of them had the ultra-secure password “12345678”. I remember the first website I visited was Wikipedia.
However, I have tried to not spend too much data. I only watched videos in low quality (240p) and browsed the web. For downloading large files (which I considered anything above 50MB at the time) I’ve used public networks. Usually at the bus station or a nearby pub.
Sometime later I got access to even more Wi-Fi networks using the convenient “WPS WPA Tester” app. Like a third of all networks used one of the default PINs.

    Isn’t the Z axis vertical?

    victorz,

No? That would be the y axis.

    CheesyFox,

in lots of 3D software Z is horizontal

    victorz,

Horizontal going into the screen right? The depth axis, if you will.

    experbia,
    @experbia@lemmy.world avatar

not consistently. I find there are basically two schools of thought in 3d graphics:

    • the screen is a graph representing a 3d space: the x axis is horizontal, the y axis is vertical. depth, going ‘into’ the screen, then becomes the z axis. mathematicians and programmers tend to like this.
    • the screen is a camera viewing a 3d space from within itself: the coordinates to position yourself along a line is one dimensional: x. to position yourself on a plane as in a 2d game, two dimensional: x, y. to position yourself within a volume, three dimensional: x, y, z. humans are kind of inherently planar spatial navigators - it’s easy to think about our position in terms of “where on the ground” we are, then adjust for height. 3d artists and level designers tend to like this.
    victorz,

Ah I see. Thanks. I’m used to the first line of thought, as that’s what I’ve been using when doing 3D programming.

    jaschen,

All the 3D printer software, Z is vertical. But I only used a couple so I am not an expert.

    Yup.

It’s typically vertical, but you can name your variables however you want.

    MacNCheezus,
    @MacNCheezus@lemmy.today avatar

The Z axis is usually used for depth, so it’s going to be perpendicular to whatever your frame of reference (i.e. projection plane) is.

If it’s upright in space, like a computer screen, the Z axis will be horizontal. If it’s a sheet of paper on a desk, then yes, I suppose it could be argued to be vertical instead.

Pickle ornaments are a traditional thing for some people, but it’s a whole pickle and not a hail corporate jar. The jar is kinda funny too though. I’ve thought about getting pickle ornaments for the trans women I’m friends with as a joke, IDK if the whole jar would be funnier though.

In doing research on the sustainability of the textile sector, I came across this company that makes a reusable towel dispenser incorporating cloth as opposed to paper. They do business with the big wigs in textiles, most notably Lenzing (makers of TENCEL), so it seems legit.

And if this company does it, I’d wager that others do too.

Imagine if we had this in all countries as opposed to paper towels. Maybe cloth towels + hand dryers for the best of both worlds.

Edit: better link with video showing operation & maintenance.

    pyrflie, (edited )

These are pretty damn great as long as they keep the sanitizer stocked. Otherwise they get gross really fast.

They are great for employee/shop restrooms, but public and especially transportation (see airports and train stations) restrooms have too much through traffic to adequately upkeep.

    BleatingZombie,

I’ve never seen one that wasn’t disgusting

    pyrflie,

They are an engineered solution. Most likely you’ve seen them used in situations they weren’t designed for, ie public restrooms with base models.

They typically have a # of users they can accommodate per hour without deterioration.

I love these things but they really do have limited use cases.

    Anticorp,

Those things have been around forever. They were really common in gas station bathrooms when I was a kid.
