@iHUNTcriminals but why comment on it? An elite user should know that different things work for different people not strut about acting superior because he doesn’t use a DE.

iHUNTcriminals,

It was a joke. I don’t actually talk like that or care about what people do ha ha.

@interolivary maybe, but sometimes you just have to accept people at face value.

That’s actually a bit tricky for me especially via text, I’ve got a touch of the 'ole autism (like I have an actual diagnosis from a real medical doctor and not TikTok), but I get what you mean. I have a bad habit of assuming the worst about people

stockRot,

Then why comment?

Somewhere along the line, Ryan Gosling has become one of those actors where I want to see his movie based oh him alone. But this team actually adds a ton to the interest. Emily Blunt, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Stephanie Hsu, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, and apparently Lee Majors is involved. And also David Leitch directing, I’m in!

CerealKiller01, to mildlyinteresting in Anti-Zionist Jewish community flying Palestinian flags in Jerusalem

So, some context - this group is called “Neturei Karta”. They are Anti-Zionist in the sense that they believe that Jews aren’t allowed to form a self governing state until the Messiah arrives and will rule in god’s will. The Palestinians themselves is meaningless to them (much like Iran’s Anti-Zionist. As in, their leader actually met with the Iranian president some years ago). This is a more extreme form of the belief that a secular Jewish state has no right to exist, which in itself is a more extreme form of the belief that a secular Jewish state has the right to exist only to act as a platform for a religious Jewish state. The latter ideology is shared by a large part of the current far right government of Israel.

fishos, to mildlyinteresting in Why do the cables ONLY vibrate between these two poles?
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Found this: …stackexchange.com/…/why-weights-on-cables-betwee…

Probably some combination of electromagnetic effects in that specific section. Happens to oscillate just right. Though these weights can be used for wind issues, I’m seeing a lot of references to dampening other kinds of vibrations. Might help you find a better answer.

biffnix,
@biffnix@discuss.online avatar

Hmm. It’s odd that this isn’t ALWAYS vibrating, but it IS only between these two poles that I’ve noticed the vibration. But why not between other sets of poles? And since the cable vibrating the most isn’t a power cable (I believe it’s fiber, but it could be copper - but it’s definitely telecom, since it’s not insulated on the top crossbar, as the other power cables are), it can’t really be much power going through it. I’m kind of hoping someone else has seen similar behavior somewhere else. You can see the anti-wind-twist devices (don’t know what else to call them) bolted to the other telecom cable (sort of diamond-shaped) and they will cause the cable to stabilize when the wind is really blowing, but you can see the wind isn’t blowing at all, and the cable continues to vibrate quite noticeably. I really do hope someone else has seen something like it elsewhere…

fishos, (edited )
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

In regards to it only being between those two poles, I’d wager it simply comes down to tension. The other cables are tensioned correctly and this section is either too loose or intentionally loose as some sort of expansion/contraction relief.

ripley, to movies in FURIOSA : A MAD MAX SAGA | OFFICIAL TRAILER #1 - YouTube

Recently read Blood Sweat and Chrome about the making of Fury Road - Furiosa was written during the decades long production of that movie. Originally was going to be an anime tie-in like the Animatrix but they thought it was too good not to save for a movie.

JimboDHimbo,

Decades? Well now I’m scared that this will be the last Mad Max or George Miller movie

ripley,

Fury Road being made was a miracle driven by Miller’s unstoppable vision - it went through three studios. At one point it was two weeks away from shooting with Mel Gibson like ten years before it was actually shot. It really is an inspiring story of perserverence.

XeroxCool,

And what we got was an improvement through newer technology. A 90s or even 00s movie would have been green screen galore, with cgi producing most of the scene. Instead, cgi evolved to be able to erase the cables and other safety items to make most of the movie a practical stunt. As Miller kept dreaming up more crazy cars, those too became reality with time as improved materials and engineering allowed them to exist. Iirc, the biggest surprise in Fury Road development was the “pole cat” cars.

I’ve got to say this is one of the things Lucas did that was just dumb.

The Jedi don’t do it because it’s trickery. Okay I can kinda see that.

But the motherfucking SITH!!??. The same mfers who will torture/murder/slaughter anyone/thing they want, somehow find turning off your lightsaber as DISHONORABLE!!!???
