lemminer, in If people using Reddit are called Redditors, then what do we call people who use Lemmy?

😉

nac82, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

I have so many thousands of hours of rocket league across so many platforms at this point.

Worst part about transferring from console to PC was all my playtime data being lost.

TheDonkerZ,
@TheDonkerZ@lemmy.ca avatar

That was me too! I guessed I had around 2k hours in RL overall, but Destiny 2 has recently just eclipsed 2k hours on just PC. Probably have 2500 in that game total now.

atheos, in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@atheos@lemmy.atheos.org avatar

Beerfest, back to the future 1+2, the big lebowski are some of my repeat picks.

Whenever I have a really bad day at work my husband will play Slammin Salmon to cheer me up.

Kolanaki, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Until Jon Stewart’s rant about Chicago Style deep dish, I had always thought I had Chicago style. But it’s actually Detroit style that I’ve had.

Personally, I prefer New York style, tho.

XbSuper,

I’m not sure what style the pizza I like is called, it’s just pizza. But I know I detest Chicago deep dish, and new york style. One is more of a casserole than a pizza, and the other is like paper with toppings on it.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

But it’s delicious paper. 🥹

You probably like what I’ve heard called Napoli style. That’s a normal crust that’s not super thin but also not super thick. It is supposedly the traditional style. But this is from American places so IDFK 🤷🏻‍♂️

XbSuper,

Sounds right, but I know about as much as you (maybe less)

otterpop, in Best options for Non-Google cloud storage as of 2022?

Another option would be to use something like Duplicati and have your backups be cloud agnostic. It fully encrypts the backups so it doesn’t matter who the vendor is or if they are good guys.

This assumes you have the TB of space locally though.

Proton Drive maybe?

Last time I checked (which was a while ago) they were still working on implementing some basic things. Do you know if it’s improved now?

otterpop,

They just released a Windows client I think so it’s definitely coming along.

TheGiantKorean,
@TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world avatar

Nice, thanks. I’m using pCloud currently, which works pretty well, but I don’t think they’re as private as I would like.

Lemon Partiers

In Lemmy, subreddits are known as communities. You join a community by its name, for example !mycommunity. Do a search for that community, click on the search result, and you’ll be given an option to subscribe. Note that the search might come up as 0 results even though you got the community name right. It’s just taking longer to find the community.

jerdle_lemmy, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Yeah, Lemmy doesn’t have everyone over from Reddit.

baronvonj, in Need Lemmy Usage Assistance
@baronvonj@lemmy.world avatar

If you go to lemmy.ml/communities then click All you will see communities from all federated instances. Communities from other instances will have @<instance> displayed. If you don’t see one in specific you can search for !<community>@<instance> (you may have to wait a minute and search a second time if it’s the first time anyone has searched for that community).

As far as browsing those other communities, that will be lemmy.ml/c/<community>@<instance>. For example lemmy.ml/c/guitars@lemmy.world

skip0110, in Do any of you guy happen to remember the name of that discord server that would share links to random publicly available security cameras?

garyyo, (edited ) in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

Necessity. When most of the software you use is reliant on Windows it’s hard to make Linux your daily driver. That being said, the changes needed to make it worth it are already done in limited contexts. Steam deck is pure Linux, the user interface and everything is implemented in a way that the user does not have to deal with the complexity, but the underlying mechanisms for doing wonky shit is still there if you want to mess with it. It’s kinda the best of both worlds in that sense.

If we wanted a desktop experience to replicate that, you would just have to do the exact same thing. Abstract the user experience such that the layperson does not need to engage with the complicated bits, but leave them there for those that do want them. And arguably that is being done with some distros, but it’s just not quite there yet.

200cc,

Is Steam a necessity of yours? Do you work in the videogames industry?

garyyo,

No, and I explained that steam works perfectly fine on Linux.

Anticorp,

Steam works flawlessly with Linux now. If you have an Nvidia GFX card then you can even get a Pop!_OS install with the driver pre-configured. It’s pretty rad!

PeepinGoodArgs,

Necessity for me, too. After three years of using Linux, I went back to school and it was needlessly difficult trying to get everything to work together. The nail in the coffin was when I had to use some proctoring software and I couldn’t use a virtual machine. I just went back to Windows.

If I didn’t have to use Windows, I’d probably still use Linux. I really enjoyed how snappy it was.

to subscribe to communities in other instances, search for them, go to community, look in the sidebar and hit subscribe. For example to subscribe to !nostupidquestions click that link, look in the sidebar, hit the subscribe button.
