UnverifiedAPK, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

So I’ve found there’s two different ‘pleasure’ experiences:

One is during the workout where you disassociate and just feel your muscles working. In running this is usually called a “runner’s high”, and in weightlifting it’s typically refered to “lifting heavy thing make me happy” / “Big rock make sad voices go away”

Then there’s the after-workout where you just feel your muscle exhausted as you relax and it’s extremely satisfying. You know you’re getting stronger and the workout will be easier next time.

Both of these feelings take a few weeks to start, you’ll have to get results from your workout and then your mind and body will start rewarding you with dopamine for doing a good job. (Although some days working out still sucks ass though and is both tiring and a chore, that part doesn’t go away it’s just easier to ignore).

Moonguide,

That “big rock make sad voices go away” bit had me hollering ngl. Very relatable.

SFDope, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I’m at a point where sometimes I don’t want to go lift, but it’s part of my routine that if I don’t go I feel like shit. a chore to go, change and warm up but 20min in I just fall in the zone

Ab_intra, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?
@Ab_intra@lemmy.world avatar

I would love absolute silence. I got Tinnitus in my right ear 24/7/365… It will probably never disappear… And I also sleep with a CPAP which makes annoying sounds when sleeping. So I would absolute silence.

taladar, in How often do you brush your teeth?

After breakfast and before i go to bed.

AceSLS,

You should brush before breakfast to remove the bacteria from your mouth that breaks your teeth in combination with sugar

Lemmy is a given, since I’m fairly active here.

I’ve been using Mastodon even if I was never a Twitter user. (Or at least, not a serious user. I had an account some time ago, as I was dating a girl who posted there often and she insisted that I should use it.)

I’ve been trying to convince people to migrate from Whatsapp to Signal. Easier said than done due to network effect.

Ab_intra, in Hey Lemmy, what are your favorite ear worms?
@Ab_intra@lemmy.world avatar

I hate that… Mostly because I can go around for days having a song in my head and can’t for the life of me stop getting it off.

shai_hulud, in What's the worst thing you've ever smelled?

I had a serious case of chickenpox right before I turned 21. All over crust, mouth, eyelids, ears, groin…I smelled like I was rotting and eventually was hospitalized for two weeks. The nurses took turns or drew straws or something. I pretty much went out of my mind for awhile.

On a positive note, afterwards, I didn’t have any kind of acne for like 5 years.

So you pretty much shed a layer of skin. Like a snake.

Gnarly.

shai_hulud,

Oh yeah, it was fuckin gross. An all over scab. Like forbidden fried chicken.

Hahaha thanks for the visual

Darkwatch00, in What's it like working night shift?

Some people got it some people don’t. I cant function on nights. I did graveyard shift as hospital security supervisor (like another poster stated), also did 6 weeks rotation from days to nights as a deputy in county jail (living hell!) for a year.

Basically as others said. Black out curtains, melotin or sleep aid, sound machine, blue light filtering sunglasses, and consistent schedule is key. Also be careful of health because you will want to eat and drink coffee out of boredom or fighting sleep off.

good luck op hope it works for you.

Aesthesiaphilia,

I have delayed sleep phase disorder so I'm one of the ones who got it. Nights are amazing, I function so much better and feel so much more energetic.

But it's tough on your career. You will never move up working nights, because the faces the bosses see are there during the day. Sucks but that's how it is.

Onfire, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

For those that has natural build for body building, sure, it might be fun. Not everyone is built to lift weights.

I loved being able to sleep in, do what I felt like doing during the day, and then going to work. I also enjoyed being alone at night.

It was hard on my body, though. I don’t think my brain ever fully adjusted, because on the weekends it was like my body tried to switch me back to a normal schedule (because I was hanging out with family and friends), and I had to re-adjust on Monday. It also doesn’t really work with dating. And I wanted to kill the landscaping people who would trim the hedges at my apartment complex at 10am.

What’s it like working night shift?

  • constant fatigue
  • constantly explaining to the same people over and over that you are not available in the daytime because that’s when you sleep

source: worked night shift for many years

hibbfd,

also weight gain. I worked 6pm-6am for almost 2 years straight and gained 40lbs without changing my eating habits.

started drinking every morning after work too. and days (nights) off were a total clusterfuck. wake up, hit the grocery store before they close, start drinking because wtf else am I gonna do at 11pm alone in my camper with no wifi and spotty cell signal. my experience is probably not the norm lol

If you started drinking everyday your eating habits changed. You started taking in more calories.

DjMeas, in What replacement for each major social media do you use

I host my own private “Facebook” for my large family. The web app is called HumHub and it’s free to use (though some premium add-ons are paid).

Nemo, in What replacement for each major social media do you use

Instead of livejournal, I wrote my own blogging software in PHP.
